NTL wireless BB with Belkin Router

    Hi

still cant get this to work! Have the triple BB, TV and phone package with NTL. The modem is beside the TV and my comp is in another room.

Engineer said i need to get wireless adaptor and wireless router. had a netopia 3d reach wireless adaptor from before so installed that on PC. Bought a Belkin wireless G+ router which i plugged into the modem via ethernet.

when i try to install the router on the PC it gets to a stage where it either asks to re-boot and then message says the installation will continue, which after reboot it does not, or else it says re-boot later in which case the installation just stops!

also crucially it asks you to plug a cable from one port on the router into the PC. Since my pc is in another room away from the router (which is plugged into the modem), this is not possible!!!

I still have to get NTL out (again) as the phone is not working (of course) but would like to know if i'm doing anything specifically wrong here. Any help much appreciated.

    Tim

but would have to go back home and check-engineer said any wireless router would do, he said belkin and i bought it today in argos-it was the only belkin one in the catalog.

No need to install any software on the PC. Just follow the steps in the manual (page 22) to set it up. Once you've set the router up correctly (wireless settings etc) you can disconnect the router and move it back to the other room.

You might need to power off the NTL modem for 10 mins or so to release the ip address from the assigned MAC address. Then connect it to the router and power it on.

hmm. there was no manual with the router at all! just a fold out sheet that takes you through the same installation instructions that come with on the installation cd. Will try your suggestion of connection router to pc first though, tks

    thanks.

unfortunately i went back up to my place to try this and discovered that there does not appear to be an ethernet port at the back of my (brand new) PC-is this possible????

I have to ring dell tomorrow to find out if i can still actually connect to any network at all without an ethernet cable plugged in to the PC. This feels rather dumb.

What model number is the dell? AFAIK, all Dell's come with a network port.
