Went down to the botanic garden yesterday to get some macro shots of cactii, possibly for the minimalist challenge.... but the effin greenhouse was empty and shut..... aaghh. So instead I yet again ended up with the venus flytrap and his friends.

No idea what this one's called (have to write it down next time I'm there):

OP, as a severely inexperienced photographer, what exactly did you do to take this photograph. What camera, lens, settings, etc?

thanks guys n gals, the 100mm macro lens is now officially my favourite lens :D

davyjose: The camera was the Canon 30D with the 100mm macro lens. Camera not so important, the lens is what allowed me to get so close..

To get the shot, had to balance the tripod on 2 legs against the table this little fella (actual size is few centimeter) was on; as the focusing distance was very short.

mikeanywhere: Manually focussed on the green body (those black spots on the body are actually more 'tentacles' with beads) Have about a dozen shots and most are too fuzzy, but thats what a small DOF does to a steady balancing hand.

I'll get the full tech stuff from the exif data when I get home this evening
