    Hi,

    I have an old laptop 166Mhz, 32MB,..etc which I'd like to use as a wireless client, to a weak AP, and wire the traffic to a local AP to basically boost the signal.
    I see it's possible to do with 2 routers - 1 running dd-wrt for example.
    I'd like to do it with my laptop running a very light version of linux/freebsd,
    and 1 router.
    Anyone got any links to howto's on this ?

    Thanks,
    Ray.

    You could get a little board designed from the ground up for that craic , OS n all for about 50euro ( add a radiocard ~ 35 ) and away you go . If you want to go with what you have , may this is what you are thinking of http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2001/03/06/recipe.html

    ^^^ will give you an idea what to google for .. look for stuff like bsd wireless gateway linux wireless gateway etc

    Thanks for the reply bushy.
    That link appears to show how to setup an old PC as
    a wireless AP. Could be handy for me too.
    I had a search in google and can't find anything to do what I want..
    Maybe buying 1 dd-wrt compatabile router is the answer..

    It won't be too far away though , in the example config file they give : http://www.oreillynet.com/wireless/2001/03/06/wireless.opts

    change this bit :

    INFO="My Network Settings"
    ESSID="My Network"
    MODE="Ad-Hoc"

    to read

    INFO="My Network Settings"
    ESSID="My Network"
    MODE="Managed"

    and it will put it in "client mode"
