[Request] Cheap Health Store / vitamins, supplements

    Hey,

I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers on where is the best place in Dublin - or online - to get vitamins and supplements. I'm not talking bodybuilding stuff like Creatine or Amino Acids or what have you. More along the lines of Omega 3 supplements / cod liver oil, Udo's Oil, Vitamin B Complex etc - the usual stuff you find in health stores.

I've done a search and found a reference to some good value stuf in Aldi, which I may investigate but I'd rather go with branded stuff like Seven Seas or Sona.

I came across this site - http://www.bodykind.ie/ - which looks pretty good but I'd rather just be able to pop into town and pick some up somewhere that's consistently cheaper than elsewhere, if anyone has done the legwork before me?

    Thanks!

Nature's Way/Holland and Barrets in the Ilac center always seem to be having some kind of sale/discount/reductions going on.

I seem to remember that the levels of minerals were far below that of other branded products.

    My personal favourite is

    www.vitacost.com

Even including delivery, and import duties (if they are charged) I saved at least 30% on Irish prices, and often much more.

Their delivery is very fast also... 2 - 3 days.

    Their range is unparalled.

Aldi has a reasonable selection all at €1.99, (I think they have Glucosamine, Cod Liver Oil capsules, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Calcium and Multivitamins) also Lidl has a smaller selection at various prices.

Nutritionist was on radio last week saying in her 20 years working in Irish health system she has never seen a person with vitamin b or c deficiency. I used to take loads of vitamin tablets etc but most are unneccessary. For omega 3's get a box of Linusit in tesco for 6euro, its linseeds/flaxseeds with shells removed and easy to eat and full of fibre and protein. Fruit smoothies have loads of vitamins and organic vegtable soups have vitamin and minerals too. Most breakfast cerals are fortified with likes of all the B vitamins. Some vitamin excesses are a bad thing.

I'm kinda with Ron on this.

There was a Horizon special on this a couple of weeks ago:

It's probably okay to take a good multivitamin, you should check with your doctor first if you are feeling under the weather/tired etc.
Taking separate vitamins/minerals at high dosages can be dangerous.

Basically if you are getting a good and varied diet you don't need vitamin/mineral supplementation.

Read the article for some good and enlightening information.
