Component Cable

Picked up a component cable over here in Canada for my European Wii.

My question is will this work with a normal scart cable if I just plug certain bits of it into it? Like one of the video ones and the 2 audios as if it was a normal composite one? I thought they worked like that provided the correct setting was picked in the settings menu but now after trying it out here on a VGA box I'm not so confident :s

    Anyone know?

my budget component cable came with 6 connections and a big sticker on the front saying it will work as component and composite.

so the fact they made such a point of letting people know it works for both probably means that a normal one wont work for both

If you use it with a SCART adapter, you'll be using the Composite connectors in the cable and it will be not better than the pack-in. You can't choose 480p with your method.

If your TV doesn't have Component connectors, there's no point in getting a Component cable!

    Short answer = no.

Will it work with a scart cable? This is a nonsensical question. Do you mean a scart adapter. If so, no it won't work with that as the component signal is split differently from RGB scart.

VGA box? You need to explain what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to hook the Wii up to a monitor via a vga box? That sounds like the most likely thing.

You need to explain a little bit more.

I used my 'Game' component cable with a vd-z3 (vga box) and obviously couldn't play any non EDTV games, only those which are EDTV (480p), which is a major bummer because I don't think any VC games are EDTV.

Right never mind, I actually just looked at my Wii and realised I do have it hooked up using the component cable but it's running as composite so it does work.

    To clarify:
I was asking if I could do the above. Use the component cable with a scart adapter like a normal composite cable and yes I can as I've now just realised >_<

And VGA box? Yeah I'm running my Wii through a VGA box to convert the signal over to VGA so I can run it on a monitor as I have an EU Wii and I'm currently in Canada and it's the only way I can play it until i return.

Can I ask what difference a component cable will make, I have an lcd flat panel so im sure I could take it, will the cables provided with the wii not do the job?
