Does anyone know why the conversion factor (ie the figure used to convert your meter reading to Kwh) on bord Gais bills changes from one bill to the next? On my current bill for example its 10.9607. On my last bill it was 11.3051. This represents a difference of 3% gas used for the same meter reading.

It changes because the calorific value of the gas you're getting changes from time to time, that's what it's there for. You might be using more gas in terms of cubic meters delivered, but you're actually getting less out of it per cubic meter in terms of heat (kWh). It might be due to changes in what's coming out of the gas fields, Bord Gais getting their supplies from different sources etc. etc.

the calorific value is averaged every day during the billing period at lough shinny. what you see on your bill is the average of the 8 week billing period. and you are billed for Kwh not units used.
