    Whats more reliable, a 2000 VW Golf or a 2000 BMW 316 or 318?
Or would you go for something Japanese, all the taxi drivers and mechanics seem to say go with Japanese cars, but the Japanese car designs don't really interest me, but then this is about reliability not design.

If reliability is your main thing then go Japanese, a Toyota will be far more reliable than either a VW or a BMW.

You don't say which Golf - some are worse than others. The 1.4 is appalling. Mind you 3-series aren't the rock they once were either.........Mazda jumps to my mind as top of the pile...........see my sig for, er, proof?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I've owned both (still own the 3 series), and neither have been bullet proof. I think the Mazda 6 is a lovely looking car, and the Mazda 3 isn't bad either if you're looking for a smaller car.

What kind of budget are you looking at?

Top Gear JD power survey should give answers to you question.

Google it, it should be on the net somewhere.
