it all depends on the driver, my focus had the same clutch for 7 years, 50k miles. (and still going but I don't have it anymore)

I have had my car from new, back in 2002, and only about 28,000 miles on the clock........was just wondering. Im not having any problems at all (touches wood) was just throwing the question out there

it also depends on the type of car/ type of driving (city is normally a lot harder on clutch) but I though a rule of thumb was 100k miles min unless you are killing it with your driving..

I have an 02 golf, 43k on it. clutch is starting to slip a lot, almost every time i drive it now :(
Can anyone recommend a mechanic who would do this without requiring a blank cheque in advance ! Dublin Area

It really depends on usage. I'm driving a 98 car with 121,000 miles and the original clutch is showing no signs of slipping. On the other hand, a day of hard standing starts in a powerful 4wd car will fry any clutch.

The clutch lasted for 7 and a half years in my Toyota Corolla. Not entirely sure of the mileage clocked up in that time though. Also, most of the driving was in the country, city driving shortens their life span.

My car is a 91, 80k miles on the clock - clutch is starting to go a little, sometimes cant get it into first, have to release and re-engage clutch to get it in, and it tends to dump all of a sudden, i.e. the clutch bites suddenly with very little pedal travel.

Still reckon I'll get another couple of years/thousand miles out of it before I got change it though :D

We got 130K out of a clutch in a Micra at home. There was five people driving it, and two people learned to drive in it. And then, I once got 500 meters out of a clutch (I was towing a big load!)

So, there is no "correct" answer, as it depends on the driver and how he/she uses the clutch.

Depends on driving and the size of the clutch
I drive a space wagon (I know not exactly stylish) and have clocked up 145,000 miles and still on the original clutch I did now of an old dear put in 3 clutches in a fiat in 4 years

Drive a Civic with with 150k miles. 96 model and the clutch is still going strong but the release bearing is starting to go. So 11 years of road use for me.

In my experience it depends on the driver and how much or little abuse the clutch gets.

My car has 130,000 miles on it, I've owned it since new and it's still on it's original clutch and no signs (tips wood) of it giving any trouble.

Mine last until about 105k miles. The car could barely make it up hills without it slipping near the end. When I got it replaced, the mechanic showed me the old clutch, and the springs in the pressure plate that grinded themselves into the clutch plate!

1993 1.4 golf, has been in family since new, has 194,098 miles on it, still has original clutch, bless it.

I had loads of cars go over 100k on an original clutch. That said, having clutch go isn't a big deal anyway, all it would take would be a minor defect in the manufacturing and it would last long. tbh I've had clutch cables and handbreak cables go more often than clutches. Why the question?

I'd say about 350/400 all in(clutch/pressure plate/thrust bearing and labour)
