Bollocks, for the second time out of the Melvins' three gigs here in living memory, I will be in Berlin instead of Dublin. I missed the Houdini gig to DJ a friend's party, only for the party to be cancelled when I arrived in Berlin. Now the same friend is getting married, she better not cancel that!

The incredible Melvins return to Dublin on saturday may 5, once again joined by the awesome power duo Big Business & Porn. the show they did in the village last decemeber was incredible. Melvins latest album (A) Senile Animal is out now on ipecac

    MELVINS

The Melvins are family entertainment on another level. Some people say The Melvins are the wave of the future. Some people think The Melvins have already influenced a huge wave of music on a global level but most people expect The Melvins to totally **** up. Most people think they should be called "The ****s" because they're ****ed.

Well, maybe so, but nonetheless it's the last half of 2006 and The Melvins have a new new NEW album called (A) Senile Animal.

    (A) Senile Animal was recorded in Hollywood and as you may or may not know. The Melvins have been through a lot this last year: wars, drugs, impeachment but they never lost sight of what was important AND what was festering in their bowels. Once again the Melvins have "started over" with two, count em TWO, new members, Coady Willis and Jared Warren from the band Big Business. This will be super colossal and totally beyond reason. We can't even believe it's happening but believe it or not it's becoming more and more believable. No **** man! It's like that drug trip I saw in a movie when I was on that drug trip.

And there it is my friends. One thing you can be sure of is this (A) Senile Animal album is really really great and it really works! It's ten songs long and is most likely the best album they or anyone else will put out this year or any previous year or ever probably. They have double everything this time. Double drums. Double, triple and even quadruple vocals, double bass and guitar... Well, not really double bass and guitar but... Well sort of double bass and guitar but in order to explain how that works we would have to get into a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that even we don't understand so let's just leave it at the double drums. DOUBLE DRUMS everybody!

And, AND... The Melvins will hit the road with Big Business in September for a full United States tour. Keep your eyes peeled for the dates in your town or at least a couple of hundred miles from where you live. Take a road trip with your friends and go see the Melvins. Take time off from work, get your tickets and go go go to the show show show. Or shows. You and all your friends should go to as many of the Melvins shows as you can because all sorts of crazy **** will be happening. It will be un-****ing-believable and besides, hell, why not? It will be a kick in the ass!

Well, earlier in 2006 and as usual the seemingly tireless Melvins released yet another brand "new" CD. Big surprise. This time, as a result of their strange work last year in Europe with the famous Trevor Dunn playing bass they've recorded a full length record entitled "Houdini Live: A Live History of Gluttony and Lust", which was released in May. So put down your beer bongs and your crack pipes and dash out and buy two or three copies ... or maybe twenty copies just in case. Remember, this isn't bull**** so don't worry.

It would be criminally and morally irresponsible not to get behind, promote and endorse The Melvins with every tool (legal and illegal) possible. Get busy, don't fight it, just do it!
    - Buzz Osborne

    BIG BUSINESS

BIG BUSINESS has two guys in it. It is spelled here in capital letters so you know we're talking about a serious band. Jared Warren plays the bass guitar and sings. He used to be in this band KARP and then he was in this other band for awhile name of TIGHT BROS FROM WAAAY BACK WHEN. Coady Willis plays the drums and sometimes yells and stuff. He used to be in the MURDER CITY DEVILS and probably some other bands you haven't ever heard of. BIG BUSINESS put out their first full-length record out in January 2005. HYDRAHEAD RECORDS was the label, HEAD FOR THE SHALLOW was the title. Lots of touring followed. Adventure! Then, a mysterious phone call led to a secret meeting with the MELVINS. BIG BUSINESS became part of the MELVINS with Buzz Osborne on guitar and vocals, Jared assuming bass and vocal duties, and Coady playing second drumset alongside Dale Crover. This new lineup recorded an album in the summer of 2006 and called it (A) Senile Animal. Out Oct. 10th on IPECAC records. But Wait! BIG BUSINESS has also just recorded a new record! "HERE COME THE WATERWORKS". It was produced by record producer PHIL EK (Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Band of Horses) and is going to be dropped on your face by Hydra Head on March 6 of 2007. LISTEN NOW!! NEW SONG "GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE" IS UP AND RUNNING. YOU LOVE IT!

not as good. but still deadly. i preferred the village gig because people were squished together more towards the front. made for a sweatier and more hardcore dancing area :) ...also fair play to the bands for the cheap merchandise compared to pretty much every other band that comes here.
