Advice needed for charity tournie with work

I suggested to the Charity Committee in the large multinational I work for that a poker tournament event would be a good fundraiser for a selected charity. They like the idea so now I’m trying to get more details and ideas together on how to make it as successful as possible by earning as much as possible for the charity while also ensuring everyone has a good time, and the ‘players’ amongst the company feel it’s a fair deal and well-run (these last two will help generate interest if it was to be made an annual event).

So I’d really appreciate any suggestions or experience anyone on here can offer. A few things I’ve thought of would be to have a Poker School run for an hour or so before the tournament, with experienced players running a basic rules school for beginners and a strategy table for more intermediate players (if anyone wants to offer to help out as teachers I’m all ears!). I think this would remove some of the intimidation factor some might have and encourage people to get involved for the charity and decent night they’ll have by at least knowing they’ll learn something and be able to actually play the game. I also reckon bounty prizes for knocking-out any celebrities we could get involved, or failing that, the partners in the firm, would be a good novelty. Some have suggested we make it a Bond theme with blacktie, but am not sure if that might be offputting, and the central aim is to raise funds for charity.

Think I read on here before that some company (is it Special Days) hire tables and chips for free if it’s for charity – is that still true?

Other questions I have that it’d be good to get a view on from those in the know:

-What % of the pot being dedicated to the charity would be acceptable?
-What tournament structure (buy-ins, rebuys, freezout period, blinds structure) would be most suitable for a friendly tournament? Most people in the company are on good salaries so will hopefully get a decent number stumping up.
-Logistics: any recommended venues in Dublin, estimated hire & running costs, target start and end times etc.
-Is it worth hiring dealers and, if so, what’s the best way of going about doing this?
-Likewise for a Tournament Director – I’m a decent player (at best) myself and know the rules to a certain point, but is it worthwhile getting someone with more experience in to have a definitive voice to resolve disputes due to the sums involved?
-Recommended tournament organization software – I defo think hooking some form of status updates to a large screen helps generate interest.
-Side tournaments – is it worth running STTs for those who get knocked out early and take a rake?
-Spectators – yea or nay? Would it be a runner to put on some alternative entertainment and/or food for spectators and knockouts to generate buzz, or more earnings for the charity?
-Sponsorship – hopefully the firm will stump up something, but understanding the options would be good.

Am sure I’m missing some, but that’s not a bad start. Sorry for the long list, but if a few people can help out with one or two points each we’ll get there and your help is much appreciated.

    Nice one.

Sorry, I know this is off-topic but my sig is just a quote from the TV Show "Heroes".

Regarding the tournament that was in the Tower hotel, from what I saw of it (I was only walking in and out through the day) it was well run and the dedication of those who were involved was amazing as they were in setting it up all night!
