    Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend some good jazz albums or artists with great drumming?

    Thank you.

It depends on what branch of jazz you 're talking about.
You cant go far wrong with anything by Tony Williams (ARCANA - "Arc of the Testimony). He was also great when he played with Miles Davis.
    Art Blakey
On the free-jazz side : Rashied Ali - "Rings of Saturn"
"Intersteller Space" (Ali again, this time with Coltrane)

Mercy Mercy or anything else by the Buddy Rich Big Band. The absolute master...

You could take in Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck quartet) for a change of scenery. As Rigsby said, it depends on what type of Jazz you want to listen to.

In that case dont go for the free-jazz stuff as it's just that : free with odd metres, and is not to everyone's taste.

Yeah, someone else told me to stay away from 'free jazz'.. :D
Gonna pick up Tony Williams and give him a listen.

For modern jazz drummers Dave King of the Bad Plus is brilliant, influenced by rock and thus pretty accessible but he has excellent technique and is really dynamic, really fills the sound.

Also check out Elvin Jones (e.g.on Wayne Shorter's JuJu), Max Roach (with Mingus), Jack Dejohnette (with Keith Jarrett) and Dave Weckl (You Tube him and Steve Gadd). They'd be my favourites i'd say.

(health warning: this is all fusion stuff from 70s)
    Fav drummers:
Tony Williams definitely (with Miles Davis in 1960s when he was 7 or something; later with his "Lifetime" with several lineups; still making albums).
    Also
    Peter Erskine (was on 4 or 5 Weather Report albums, some with Jaco Pastorius/legendary bass player);
Billy Cobham (on a load of Mahavishnu Albums)
Steve Gadd (various jazz and rock bands)
Bill Bruford (King Crimson and own band)
    Animal from the Muppets

There's a Buddy Rich/Gene Krupa album on Verve caled The Drum Battle, I'd reccommend that - I think it's fantastic. The Perdido finale is an absolute joy.
