keyboard error

    when i use the top keys on my keyboard in word and excel, funny characters appear and also menu options come up!! any ideas. regional settings seem ok

    sticky keys? hold shift for 8 seconds and see if they're enabled. If so disable.

    some examples. in word when i press 1 then`1 comes up, when i press 2 help comes up, when i press 4 , 54 comes up!

    tried another keyboard, voila broken keyboard. now my hunt for a black dell keyboard begins!!!

    You sure there is nothing stuck in the keys - when keys you are pressing, all bring up a character thats next to them.
    See if you have paper or something like that caught in the keys up there
