Profit challenge...

Im heading over to Cheltenham for the week and aiming to cut a profit from a 500 quid betting fund. I have a few ideas in mind already on how to spread the cash out over the week but if you were given 500 quid, how would you use it to best effect....
Im not going to bet on every race - all the big ones of course - but want to try and get as much value as I can from the weeks action...

Have a look back over previous years results and see which races tradionally throw up a lot of surprise winners, then don't back in these race, without checking I'd say the amateur rider races throw up plenty of shock results. Likewise do the same for favourites/near favourites, see what races they do well in.

Also use a sensible staking plan, give every horse you want to back a confidence rating of 1-3, and bet 3-4% of your bank per point. This will prevent you from chasing loses.

start off with 50 a race for the championship races and 20 a race for the handicaps. see how you go over the first day and a half and work from there.

Putting plans aside for a moment just make sure that you have Aran Concerto well backed as well as a few euro on the Inca... At the risk of being slated by md I have to say that I see no possible ways Detroit City could beat him.

    Well chief is another one.

Apart from that just follow the usual things like not betting on a race just for the craic or because you're in profit. If you are not genuinely convinced that your horse has a strong chance keep your money in your pocket.

Remember the quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half & put it back in your wallet. This is obviously a cr*p approach and it always reminds me that time is needed to win so just keep the patience levels high.

Apart from all that waffle good luck .;)

500 quid: 10 (€/£ every race just for an interest!! (24 x 10 = €/£ 240) then you get £/€260 left to play to your hearts content. If you have ever been to any sort of a racing festival, you will see/hear tips flying from here and there, so keep the rest as a fund to dip into when the baldy drunk irish man gives you the 50/1 winner of the foxhunters!!

i know this will upset the purists amongst you
i go to Cheltenham regularly, bet mainly on the Championship races and invest in the "dreaded" placepot ( don't laugh )
it has netted me a very handsome profit most years

Couldn't agree more, for a low stake there is a possibility of a high return.

I'll be doing the placepot on each of the 4 days. Nothing to laugh at there. Everyone should be doing it imo, especially when Paddy Power will give you a free one in the paper each day

yeah last year it paid 1600 sterling to a two pound stake on gold cup day two mates 'got out' with there smallest investment of the meeting -its also one of the most enjoyable bets u will place as it gives u an interest in most of the races -as fade says the papers give the free coupons during the week -free bets and high potential returns -mop them up -
