Hello folks anyone know any travel agents with day trips or two day packages to cheltenham going. I wasnt planning on going but have got time off work now for that week and would love to go over for even one day at least. I have never been to Cheltenham but go to all our meetings here in Ireland.
    Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

To be honest Bullensroad I'd say you're too late. A lot of the Cheltenham packages, and especially accommodation are booked up well in advance.

You could still go, there are B+B's advertised in the racing post in the town centre, get a ryanair flight to Bristol, its about 45 - 60 mins from there. There will be plenty of admittance tickets there also.

You could check the Buy and Sell, Ebay etc, theres probably people who've paid for tickets/accommodation who can't go.

yeah mary in newbridge travel for gold cup day trip -if u need accomadation pm me i know of a house in cheltenham centre friend of a friend 50 sterling per nite per head -best to fly into bristol train or car up

You don't have to stay in cheltenham. Accommodation will be quite scarce at this stage i'd say. Bristol/Birmingham are 50 minutes on train, you can always stay there.

You can stay in either Bristol or Birmingham, both have trains going to cheltenham spa station regularly. You will just have to get up early to make it in good time. You will have no problems geting tickets outside the track for face value.Getting a flight is the most important thing.Plenty of hotels in and around birmingham.

bit of advice -if u stay in bristol or birmingham its a lot of travel every day and cheltenham spa train station is like a cattle mart after racing -if u stay in cheltenham its a 10 min walk down the evsham road and ur in the town -plus u will miss the nite life which can be as good as the racing always something going on -the 21 club is great crack and a racing crowd -carbury normally does resident tipster -good card games around also -i have stayed various places but nowadays its always in cheltenham and usually private houses as this suits me -im flying into bristol picking up a car drive to cheltenham about an hour on motorway and in a house for 5 nites -total 650 euros and i have the car for the week so usually go up towards jackdaws castle one of the evenings -pub across the road from it -and go up to the course about seven one morning to watch the horses excersize -chuck wagon on site for brekkie -its an inexpensive way to do it but i have done the hotel and coach thing in the past and didnt enjoy it as much as nowadays where i have the freedom to do what i like instead of watching the clock to get a bus or train home

Yes, agree with ya knighted, but at this late stage bullensroad may not find anything in the town that cheap.I know all about the ferry/bus/stop for a slash/delayed traffic/waiting for people to jump on the bus thing.I did it a few years but finally got fed up with it.Now I fly into Bristol and stay a few miles outside chelt and its great.you can take your time eating breaky and read the paper in comfort and I always walk to the track from the town...no distance at all, but i always get the bus back as usually i'm tanked up and the sing songs on the bus are great craic on the way back into chelt.Spent a few nights in the gud all Irish oak pub....dancing on tables their for st.paddys nite a few years ago...bit of a kip, but great craic and they always show the review of the days racing for a few hours after on their big screen until the pub gets mad busy then its pints, punters and lots of paddies.Yes cheltenham spa can get very busy after racing.I'd advise anyone going over at this late stage to try and get a room in chelt or at least within a short cabride to the town. but accomadation can be tricky and pricey.Where is club 21 again knighted?...not sure that iv been there...although maybe I have but can't remember. The centaur can be good craic after the racing for an hours or two especially when theirs sum irish trad band on stage lashing out the ballads.

21 is the one in the basement just off the prominade ask anyone they all know it -jocks and stablestaff head there a lot can get mental though -i cant say i was in a bad pub in chelt cause as u know craic can start from nothing one minute and next thing u know its 5 am -

cheltenham town council have a list of houses still available -people kick there kids out for the week to make money and the going rate is 50 sterling a nite-and u can sh*g the landlady for an extra tenner-

i got the bus back to town a few times like u fairly oiled and sore legs and these english blokes started an irish sing song -fantastic craic crying laughing getting off the bus

and sure the big gig there this year ----joe dolan playing in the town hall
u better order ur tickets now lol

Im seriously thinking about going over to cheltenham just for Tuesdays racing.Could anyone tell me where or if there would be any difficulty in getting a ticket for the racecourse at face value preferably?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭knighted

tuesday doesnt sell out in club -there is a ticket portakabin at the main entrance and ample touts -no probs picking up a ticket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

Glad you got sorted Bull. There will be plenty of Tatts tickets available on Tue midger, dont bother buying a Club ticket, if you want to go in there its pretty easy to sneak in when all the crowd come out immediatley after each race, it works for us every year anyway! Be sure to get to the racecourse early to familiarise yourself with it, bars, etc. before it gets too crowded.

I was looking at doing the same. Fly into Cardiff from Dublin on tuesday morning (arriving at 10.30am) and leave wednesday (at 1.30pm) for €110. Rent a car and drive up in about an hour and a bit for €75. B&B's available for Cheltenham town for approx. €70 on ebay.co.uk and an entrance ticket for €45 off a tout.

Just over/under €300 all in for a days racing!
