    Hi Guys,

    Some newbie sky questions:

Can I use the features of Sky+ on FTA channels if I don't have a subscription?
Can anyone tell me how much it is for multiroom upgrade ?
    I think it's a max of 4 multirooms per household ?

    Thanks,
    Ray.

Don't know anything about max # of multirooms...but would be getting expensive...

    SKY+ BOX - €149*^
    • Record whole series at the touch of a button
    • Record two programmes at once
    • Record without tapes or timers
    • Pause and rewind live TV

    SKY+ WITH MULTIROOM - €149*^
    • Sky+ box plus a free standard Sky box
    • Sky+ functionality in one room
    • Watch different channels in different rooms at the same time

Multiroom subscription costs €15 a month and provides the same Sky digital channels as you receive under your first Sky TV subscription on a box in another room.

*Sky+ subscription required for Sky+ functionality. Sky+ subscription is free when you subscribe to two or more of the Sky Sports 1 and 2 or Sky Movies 1 and 2 (otherwise €15 a month). Sky HD subscription €15 a month.

^Standard installation free when you take a Multiroom subscription otherwise €75

No sub for Sky+ but still €15 per multiroom

    Thanks for the reply.

So with multiroom each room gets its own sky box and sky card,
and a cable is routed in from the dish via multi output LNB ?

Standard sky subscription is ~60EUR per month right ?
An extra 15EUR per month for each extra room ?

    TIA

Also gives the other options to mutiroom but they have limitations...

If you're interested in having Sky in multiple rooms, you can look at Sky Multiroom. This gives you a box in each room, so you can watch different Sky channels in different rooms. You will need a Multiroom subscription for each additional box. Details and prices at www.sky.com
Note the following limitation: One Sky dish can't have more than four 'feeds' running from it, so each dish can only provide a feed for up to two Sky+ boxes, or four standard Sky boxes.

Price mentioned in the first reply. €149 plus €75 Installation fee (Install fee waived if you get Multiroom).

No harm in trying eBay. I got a V3 Pace box for £80 delivered.

If you're buying from eBay, try and get the newest models. Personally I prefer Pace, though Thomson might be OK too. I'd avoid the Amstrad's though.

Does that mean sky will install multiroom in up to 4 rooms ?
I can't see any mention of the room limitation on the sky website,
but it shows pictures of just 2 rooms having multiroom, suggesting
that it is limited to 2 rooms.
"Sky Multiroom" - Effectively this is a second Sky Digital box fed from your main dish. This allows you to watch two different satellite channels at the same time in different rooms
This is also from the site - certainly suggests maximum of 2 per household.

    As regards Sky+:
Can I use the features of Sky+ without a subscription to Sky ?
ie: Use it on the FTA/FTV channels ?

    TIA

No sadly and it ought to be challanged in court. Sky+ will NOT record from other channels nor FTA channels without a subscription.

Also if you downgrade or cancel a sub, the previously recorded Pay TV programs that would need a card/sub/different package won't playback.

Possiblly, but bear in mind the cable runs from dish to boxes, and ALL boxes must be connected to phone socket(s).
    Could get messy.

    Thanks for the replies guys,
So the only questions I have left.
Can I get sky multiroom in more than 2 rooms ?
I can only see reference to 2 rooms anywhere
    (cabling is not a problem)

Why is Subscription in the UK for 2 channel packages 15ukp per month,
while in Ireland it's 63EUR per month ?

    Eh??
A basic 2 mix pack is about 22 Euro for one receiver.

Why would you want Sky cards for more than 2 rooms? If Sky+ or SkyHD you would need a Octo LNB or Quattro + distribution system.

    Don't forget:
    * Non-Premium channels, the card will work in Any Sky Digibox. Move card.
    * Over 45 decent TV and over 30 decent radio (out of 200+ and 70+ each) free even on a 60 Euro once off payment FTA receiver, inc all BBC &ITV and Film4.

Tell sky how many rooms you want and see what they say.

    Regular LNB = one Receiver
Quad LNB = Two Sky+/SkyHD OR one Sky+/SKyHD and two ordinary Sky, OR four ordinary Sky.

You can't split the signal, except with a Quattro, which needs 4 splitters each time and a special box called a Multiswitch to make it look like an ordinary LNB to a Sky box. Having 8 Sky+/SkyHD or 16 Ordinary Sky box per Multiswitch, which can take signals from four LNBs/Dishes for multiple Satellite reception too, and expand up 500 Sky+ boxes...

When I got to the site and select 2 mixes it shows 22EUR for the first 2 months,
    and 63EUR thereafter :(

I'd like to put Sky into 3 bedrooms + living room.
The cabling is already in place and if it's just an extra 15EUR per month,
    it's not too expensive..

Isn't that the price with the current special offer of free sports and movies for 3 months? The extra €41 is for the extra packages...

As I understand it multiroom is €15 per month per room I think..... That would be an extra €45 a month.

That would come in at over €100 a month! If you're going to go for that you might as well go the whole hog and get Sky HD as well.

Personally I'd put FTA boxes in the bedrooms and send the Sky output around to them using the RF output (and then probably take a holiday with the money that I'd save).
