Planning stages - Solar panels etc.

    We have just gone sale agreed on a site. We will be meeting the engineer next Monday to discuss plans and planning permission. We are making out a list now of everything we will need the house to have and I am just wondering about what I should be asking for. Are solar panels that expensive and what other possible heating methods could I have. Are there any other options I should be looking at to make the bills run cheaper for the future? Any info would be a great help.

    3 rules for new build, INSULATE INSULATE INSULATE then the other bits
    passive solar, Solar hot water system, good condensing boiler, heat recovery system. Then insulate some more :)

    congratulations on the site purchase!!:D

    this topic was covered in great detail in the gardening & diy forum
    if i remember rightly a forum member, naux from galway initiated the thread
    it turned out some great ideas which of course i stole:D


    take great time over the plans, months if necessary!! it's easier to rub
    out a few lines rather than knock walls
