    Hi there folks,

I was hoping to get some advice on here to help with the purchase of my first digital camera. I've decided I want a compact digital camera that is a cut above the most basic but at the same time not too fancy either. Here are two I have had my eye on. Any views would appreciated or indeed if you know of any alternatives please let me know.

I can get either of these for £100 but I suppose I would go to £150 for the right camera.

    Hope someone can help

    Cheers
    R

I read the sticky thread above and I guess if this thread is intended mainly for camera enthusiasts you are probably all sick of answering camera questions for people like me who don't know much about them.

Nevertheless, if can offer any further advice, it will be gratefully received.

These seem to be two very good cameras for the money and I don't think you could go wrong with either of them. Jump in and make the purchase and start taking photos. Most people on this thread are enthusiasts with more sophisticated and expensive equipment and so are probably not in a position to give advice on a starter camera. Don't get hung up on the hardware though. It is almost impossible to get a bad camera and at the end of the day it's down to personal prefence on the cosmetic differences between different models. They will all take good photos.

Yep, ultimately its down to your own preference. Do you like the menu layout, button positions weight and feel of the thing etc. Best thing to do is to pop into Dixons or Curry's et al before you decide and try them out.
