I pre-booked there yesterday and they said I could just book the console on its own if I wanted. They were looking for 700 for console + 1 game ==> 70 euro for game...

Jayus, I thought Sony announed that that games in Europe would be 59 yoyos

1st party ones will be.(Resistance, Motorstorm, Ridgeracer etc)
Oblivion and Sonic etc will most probably cost more..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

The console will cost €655 with a selected game or €680 with any game

And yes, the games range in price from €59.99 to €74.99

If they have Def-Jam in stock, you should be grand to get it. You only book an actual console, not the offer

That's good to hear because on the receipt for my deposit it says PS3 console + game 700. I presume when I go in to pick up I'll just pay for whatever the package is and the deposit is subtracted from that.

Smyth's have been taking pre-bookings since last June or so.
If you have only pre-booked now, I wouldn't even hold your breath on getting a console at all if I were you, not on launch day anyway.
Or I could be completely wrong and Smyth's will get a massive allocation, doubt it very much though...

Do you really think there will be that much demand? The impression I got from the guy at the counter was that there should be no problem collecting it on launch day. Maybe that is what I'm supposed to think, fair enough but the general feeling I've gotten from reading forums and articles and hearing about those left on shelves in the earlier launch doesn't give me any sense of panic.

The staff at Smyth's mostly have no clue about anything.
I wouldn't take anything they said seriously, ever!
Even if there are a few stores who have consoles remaining after launch day, I wouldn't have guessed Smyth's would be one of them.

When you take into consideration that they have been taking deposits since early last year, it just makes your chances look slim, loads of people could have taken their deposits back for whatever reason but I haven't heard of anything.
And if you try to ask where in the line you are in Smyth's, they don't know, they can't really give you any information on their allocation, or their amount of pre-bookings, or your place in them.To me that looks like an accident waiting to happen, and a lot of disappointed people who booked in Smyth's.

I could be wrong but that's the impression I get.
Especially if it's the Jervis Street branch we are talking about here.
Headless chickens pretty much sums up their staff from my experience.

    Yes, you are completly wrong

We get weekly updates from Sony so all the info we give out is pretty accurate

Obviously since the PS3 has been delayed so much theres gonna be loads on launch day

and look around the US and Japan, they've stopped selling out already, where as the Wii is still in its preorder stage, which wont settle down til about April

Again, not true, although I cant speak for Jervis

We have about 200 preorders in Tallaght, but we get the amount of consoles we have preordered, thats how the system works, but Sony said each shop would get an extra few consoles

If anyone asked me where they are on the list, i'd show them

You're problem aint with Smyths, its certain staff

In my past experiences with Smyth's they haven't done anything properly,
hence why I don't shop with them anymore.I am still confident at least the Smyth's on Jervis will send some people away disappointed come March 23rd.
Sony gave their allocations a couple of weeks ago, yet the guy I was speaking to only booked on Saturday, I was merely preparing him to avoid disappointment if he missed out.

I booked a PS3 at the start of January last in the Swords branch of Smyths. I asked where on the list I'd be if I ordered and I'm 60 something. Reckon I should get one on launch day.

Anyone work in Smyths Swords know what the launch day allocation will be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,573 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

i doubt anyone who ordered in the last few days will get it on launch day

Last I heard GAME on Dawson street still had consoles left, they are getting about 200 units and last time I spoke to them they had just over 100 pre-bookings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,743 ✭✭✭bluemachaveli

had my name down since last sept. only paid the deposit last week. numer 11 on list. will be some choice words if i dont get one. ur man behind the counter said its guarenteed!

I'm in the 40's in carickmines... are they opening up at midnight on the night before?

They are no help in the shop at all... according to the last guy that shop is getting 300 in stock... I assume this was a random figure. Is there not only 1,000,000 units for Europe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

I wouldnt bother worrying about not gettin a PS3

Sony shipped 4Million to the USA and Japan, and only sold just under 2M

so thats about 2M consoles sittin on shelves in the US and Japan, with the Wii still sold out everywhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

And what you neglected to mention, is that 3/4 units sitting on the shelves are only the 20GB model, which may be a key clue as to why we're only getting the premium model here...

I rang the Smyth's store where my pre-order is (Swords) and they're having a midnight launch too! The woman on the phone said that everyone on their pre-order list will be covered on the day!

It's all good so! :D Only reason to get there early is to get a second controller because I heard they are not getting very many of them in comparison to the number of consoles.

any1 know if smyths in limerick r havin a midnight lauch?
    prob not
    never do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

I'd prefer if I didn't have to go to a midnight launch, I would much prefer to just get up early in the morning and go, aside from that I didn't expect for a second there would be this many midnight launches happening.

On a side note, I'm considering ordering the PS3 memory card adaptor online, as there has been no mention of it being released here on launch day.

I've been working in the software department of Smyths for about a Year now, worked the launch of the Wii and DS Lites. Its my knowledge that our local Argos had people camped outside for the launch of the Wii and turned everyone away, HMV's turned all but 4 people away. We fully met all of our prebookings which were over the hundred mark.We will meet all our PS3 bookings for the launch. *Hint* If you go into a place and their still taking pre-bookings 2 weeks before the launch of any console there will be stock for all prebooked consoles and most likely some for general sale, it would suggest the store booked more than the pre-booked amount. Betcha a steak dinner he gets one. *Hugs and Kisses from all at Smyths* ;)

Note: Though I'm sticking up for Smyths I am in no way a Smyths Fanboy!, everyday sucks more ass than the last!

I will say that about Smyths, they are tip top on pre-booking of launch consoles. Don't know how they manage it every time but they 99% of the come true on the launch day orders. From my personal experience with them anyway.

Hope you have it hooked up to a HDTV or you won't notice the difference between Blu ray and standard DVD quality.
