I was clear on how the Divisions were going to be organised when they where announced but getting amnesia now!

    Top 4 from 1A & B go into new Division 1. Top 2 from 1A & B into this years League Semis. Obviously bottom 4 in 2A & B into Division 4. In between I'm confused.

How is Division 2 and 3 exactly being decided. Is Division 2 based on 5th and 6th Divisions 1 and 1st and 2nd in Divisions 2 and Division 3 the rest of the teams?

    NFL 2007
Divisions 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B will be played off as per previous years. However, counties will be separated into Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 for 2008, depending on final placings this year.

Div 1 will be comprised of the top four in Div 1A and 1B. Div 2 will feature the counties who finish fifth and sixth in Div 1A and 1B, plus the four teams promoted from Div 2.

Div 3 will be made up of the four teams relegated from Div 1 plus the four who are third and fourth in 2A and 2B. Div 4 will be made up of the four teams who finish in the bottom half of Div 2A and 2B.

    Championship 2007
All counties will compete in their provincial championships as usual. Counties who are headed for Div 4 after this year’s League will not compete in the All-Ireland qualifiers. Instead, they will play in the Tommy Murphy Cup. That will cut the number of qualifying rounds from four to three. If a Div 4 team reaches a provincial final, they will not compete for the Tommy Murphy Cup.

    Examples
Had the the system been in operation last year, Longford, Clare, Carlow, London, Sligo, Antrim, Waterford and Wicklow would have been ineligible to play in the All-Ireland qualifiers as they finished in the bottom four in Divs 2A and 2B.

Interestingly, Sligo beat Down, who were in Division 1, in the qualifiers, while Longford conquered Derry, who are also a Div 1 side.

Who will miss the 2007 qualifiers?
Based on bookmaker’s odds, the following eight will finish bottom of Divs 2A and 2A and will be excluded from the qualifiers unless they reach a provincial final: Antrim, Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford, Leitrim, Clare, Carlow, London.

With regards the Hurling i'm not too sure. I assume it is something similar?

Well the hurling championship was already restructured a few years ago into a 3 tier competition, with the initial participants in the Liam McCarthy Cup being based on division 1 in the NHL.

But i thought they had proposed to have 4 divisons in hurling too. Also was there somethign about the winners of the christy ring not getting promoted to liam McCarty?

News to me, but I would be interested to read about it if it is the case and anybody has a link.

The leagues were restructured slightly this year, with some teams moving between 1A and 1B

Ah I think you might be talking about this, some of the recommendations from games committee (see page 50)

Think I remember reading somewhere about somewhere. Think it was proposed. Problem is the likes of Antrim, Westmeath, Dublin and Laois are to strong for Christy Ring but not strong enough for All Ireland. Similar with Nicky Rackard. Derry and London the year before just to strong for counties like Donegal. Seems to be very hard to try and bridge those gaps without getting wallopings from stronger counties which may set the weaker counties.

As regards the Tommy Murphy Cup the idea is probably right. Some of those counties just are not benefiting from being in the qualifiers. I presume the winners would qualify for the qulaifiers the next year if they didn't reach the Provincial final?
