I am not a Chorus customer but i thought i should post this and perhaps it is better suited to Bargain Alerts (i'm not sure).

Anyway my sister inlaw told me yesterday that she rang Chorus last week to request getting switched off because she wished to switch over to Sky digital with the sky dish. She told the person in Chorus she wished to go to Sky in order to get the Setanta channels.

Chorus offered her free full subscription for three months and free Setanta for life!!!!!!!!!!!!

So she took up this offer and is staying put.:D

Did she get all Setanta channels free for life, or just the Setanta Sports Channel that's free on NTL?

    It's Setanta INCLUDED.

Cancel and it's gone. Nothing is free on Cable.

Satellite OTH has good channels that really are still there free, when you cancel Sky.

Still good value if Setanta is your cup of tea.

Are you perhaps the most anal person in the world? You do this every single time.

In any case, this customer is getting something - that normally costs extra- free of charge. Therefore it seems perfectly correct; gramatically, synthatically and legally to say that they are getting it for free. Just a thought...

Meteor: Free texts & talk for Life.

Tesco: Buy one Get one Free
(Promotes over consumption and it is NOT free).
    Rubbish.

I'm fed up with people and advert promoting things as free that are not. Marketing people are destroying the functionality of the English language. It may be a great deal to get discount (extra stuff included without extra charge). However that is NOT what "Free" means. Look up a dictionary.

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/free
    adv.
    1. In a free manner; without restraint.
    2. Without charge.

If you can "get it" "Without Charge" it is a free item. If it requires purchase or subscription it is "marketing", a discount or included feature. You can't get ANY channel on Cable free (i.e. Without Charge). You have to subscribe.

Lets not echo Marketing Air Head speak till we are all brainwashed. It's only free if it is available "without restraint" on it's own. Its a discount.

In the context of watching TV this is requires emphasis since Satellite delivery to Ireland has over 1000 TV and separately over 1000 Radio that really are free. No subscription required. Setanta is not free anywhere. It may be included without a separate charge in UPC's cable package, but that is not free and it is a lie to call it free.

Since Chorus & NTL Ireland are now both owned by UPC and UPC will make the channel line up the same everywhere and an NTL Ireland cable pack includes Setanata without a separate charge, then the news that they will do this on Chorus is hardly surprising. All Chorus subscribers will have a Setanta channel included soon, unless they restructure the packages to make Setanta part of a premium sport only add on package.

Not picking here but don't you have to buy the equipment to recieve these channels? So technically thats not "free" either.

I agree what you are saying about people using the term "free" too freely ..its a term bandied around too much and used in the wrong context alot.

Well I think in this case, the customer was already a subscriber and so was getting something extra, "free" of any additional charges.

I don't agree with you on this one but I get where you are coming from.

I agree with what Watty is saying, been a pet hate of mine too recently........

and with this case, the person isn't actually getting anything for free, what they are doing is being enticed to continue to pay Chorus for a service that they will be including for everyone already on that Service, there's a new thread somewhere else noting that Setanta is now on Chorus digi..........

Is Chorus analogue carrying Setanta Ireland at 'no extra cost' to the existing basic package as well?
