    Wont work for me...

Sorry this offer is limited to Irish customers only

    with a Yahoo.Ie email

You might need to have booked on the site using that email address before, probably all you need to do is go to the site and setup an account.

The only possibility i can think is that its checking your IP address and then saying you are not registering from Ireland

I am on Office network and it displays a UK ip when i check my ip so may be its thinking i m absed in UK

Let me get home and try again as i have local IP there

    Il report my findings

In the mean time if anyone finds a way arround please post !

getting the same error and my ip is definately an irish one, how very odd, ill give it a try later from home though

This worked fine for me but I was previously registered and had made bookings through the site a few times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭daiixi

It's not working for me with any email address I've tried even the one I'm registered with. I'm not Irish but I am usually resident in Ireland and always book things with an Irish credit card with that registration. Annoying.

hmmm... getting that error too. Would it have to be an Irish email address? eg. yourname@ntl.ie ?

I was trying with my gmail account, and it didn't work.

It'd be handy if it'd work cos I'm going interrailing in a few months :)

Worked fine for me using my gmail account...

I use that account to book on there pretty frequently though...

yea same here, but i booked before and got the email, they know how cute us irish folk are so i presume they put up somthing to stop people who havnt booked before with them!

all i need is another reason to go to amsterdam

ok so as quite a few people seem to be on a go slow at the moment, if you want to avail of this offer click on the homepage, then click on my account, then click on "Or sign up now" then create an account and when you have created the account click back on the offer page and put in the email address you just signed up with. then hey presto it will work

I got the mail yesterday from Hostel World with my 'hotmail.com' address, but I did book with them twice last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

It worked for me with my eircom.net account but I also booked with them before.

Hey, i just found out from a reliable source that this promotion is for customers who previously made bookings on hostelworld and chose "Ireland" as their nationality. It also recognises email addresses so make sure when you enter your email address it is the same one you received the email to. It worked for me!:)

i can't believe they're doing this  - isn't it illegal or something under EU law??

As a UK backpacker I reckon I'm just gonna stick to sites like hostelbookers.com or hostelz.com from now on where there's no booking fees...whatever nationality you are!!!!!

    From the T&Cs
    1. All eligible participants can verify that they are of Irish nationality or are ordinarily resident in Ireland or were resident in Ireland at the time of booking on Hostelworld.com.

So therefore its not down to who your mammy and daddy were. I bet Niall Quinn gets it free!!

I got an email from them about this yesterday, ment to signup but forgot until now - looks like a genuine decent offer! :)

I signed up, and tried the link while I was signed in, username showed on the signup page...... still didn't work :-(

    I emailed, got this reply
The reason you can’t avail of this offer is because you never booked on Hostelworld.com with this email address before, and the offer is only for past bookers.

Here’s a Gold Card number which is valid for 12 months:

    "CODE WAZ ERE"

    To activate this visit www.hostelworld.com/goldcard

Then the first time you make a booking there’ll be a button that says ‘You’re Irish, so are we’. Click on this, follow the steps and you’ll get Gold Membership for 10 years.

    Any questions let me know.
