The whole PS3 thing seems to be a total farce. Overpriced, delayed and a general design mess. Sony really have dropped the ball on this one and I think it will be at least 18 months before I consider buying a PS3. There will probably still be bugs in it then.

Personally the loss of rumble isn't a big deal.

What!? No rumble either!? Screw it!

I dunno I'll miss rumble definitely but it's not something that I'd deem essential to have.

AHAHAHAAH! Rumble was on the ps1 so it is 2 generations old! The demented fools! muahahaha.

isn't there an attachment you can get for the ps3 anyway that allows you to attach a ps1 or 2 controller with the rumble to the ps3, you lose out on the wireless though.

Having played the PS3 the other week I can tell you that you dont really notice it gone that much. The rumble feature is not vital to games, its really just an added bouns. However, I will admit that it would be a nice bonus to have on the controllers. As has been reported, the controllers are shockingly light and just, well ... dont feel as solid as the Xbox360's for example. The extra weight that the rumble would have given the controller is very much missed.

What is the more annoying thing is that Sony were origionally reported as saying that the rumble feature would not work with the SixAxis due to its tilt feature. However, this is generally just a load of ****e as the Wiimote works with both tilt and rumble. Their refusal to acknoledge that they didnt use rumble as they lost the court case with Immersion [?] over the feature is just, well ... annoying. They Playstation PR people should really have been fired years ago as they have dont nothing but hurt the console.

It porbably won't be missed too much but it is a step backwards in controller design.

To be honest, I haven't missed it that much although it may have been nice to "feel" Motorstorm..
But for other games its a non-issue, even Resistance.......the pad can feel a little light for some though

May change sooner than you think though.....;)
Breaking: Sony Settles With Immersion, Enters Into Business Agreement

And we thought this day would never come. Immersion and Sony Computer Entertainment have settled their differences and entered into a business agreement. Exactly what that means for the future of rumble in a PS3 controller is not yet known, however. [Update: SCEA responds]

Force feedback specialists Immersion Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) have announced that the two companies have decided to settle their patent litigation at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The two companies have "entered into a new business agreement to explore the inclusion of Immersion technology in PlayStation format products."

"We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us," said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas. "Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."

"We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers," said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group Chief Operating Officer, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "We are very excited about our new partnership with Immersion and the potential for new and innovative products incorporating their technologies."

As you probably recall, Immersion sued SCE for designing and selling DualShock controllers, which was a violation of Immersion's force feedback patent. Sony was ordered to pay $91 million to Immersion, and then Sony appealed the decision.

Following today's settlement, "Immersion will receive the amount of the judgment entered by the District Court, which includes damages, pre-judgment interest, costs, and interest, in addition to retaining compulsory license fees ordered by the District Court which were already paid."

Furthermore, the business agreement between the two parties also provides SCE with "certain new rights with respect to Immersion's patent portfolio." At this point it's not clear if that means we'll be seeing a new PS3 controller with rumble functionality, but the settlement certainly makes it a possibility. Interestingly, Sony also noted that "the conclusion of this litigation and the agreement will have no material impact on Sony's consolidated earnings forecast announced on January 30, 2007."

We'll bring you more on this news as soon as we can.

[UPDATE] GameDaily BIZ contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America for comment, and while the words PS3 and rumble were not used, Dave Karraker, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications did issue the following statement: "We are very pleased to have reached a cooperative agreement with Immersion regarding the use of its advanced vibration technology (haptics technology). We look forward to working closely with them as we explore new and innovative ways to utilize this technology in PlayStation products."

We're still awaiting further comment from Immersion and we will bring that to you when possible.

It really sounds like Sony have got a kick up the hole and turned on their heals to try repair the damage since E3 2006.

Nope they just settled the lawsuit brought on when they stole the technology from immersion.

They were contesting it and now they they've decided to settle it, I think they said they wouldn't be working with Immersion after E3 last year.

Companies that talk through their arses as a means of making themselves look good isn't uncommon these days.I'm in no way defending Sony's constant tripping over their own drivel, but all this will be forgotten very quickly once the console is released world wide and starts to do well.
They will release a rumble six axis pad soon and that will be that, nobody will care, there may be a few rants for a month and then it will be forgotten.

This is a pointless feature, i can't believe the poll results! I don't even notice it in games, and most of my friends actually turn it off because it's annoying!
When it came out at first it was good for about 5 minutes, then something i didn't notice. So a gimmick in my book, and good riddance.

Maybe some people do like it?

I heard god of war 3 will have rumble, so i bet there will be a new ps controller on the way in the coming months/years with it built in:)

Yeah the GOW developer said there is a good chance you will feel rumble in gow.

I thought i wouldn't miss the rumble untill i turned on F1CE. When the rumble was on in F106 on the PS2 i hardly noticed it but it played an important part by letting you know exactly how close to the limit you were. In the PS3 version you don't get the sense of knowing just when the car might spin out etc. I imagaine their will be similar effects in FPS like Unreal Tournament. As soon as you got hit and felt the controller rumbling you moved immediately for cover a shaky screen isn't as effective.

I miss the rumble. Games like F1 it helps as indicator of what road surface your on etc. Or in the middle of a frag fight in Resitance with explosions all around you and yet you expect some rumble and nothing.

Really is there a way I can turn you off for the same reason ? ;):p j/k

Seriously just because you dont like does not mean you speak for a nation. Your opinion is just that yours, and does not speak for millions.

    Yeah idiots

Grow up! Why do you feel that you have to belittle people who enjoy the feature ? Does it get you off ?

If Sony agreed with you - then why did they just settle with Immersion for around $200 million and rumble will be back in the pad.

Personally I haven't even noticed it missing since I started playing. I thought I would but I hadn't even thought about it until I saw this thread. I like that the controller is light too. It's heavier than the Wii controllers anyway.

Just weighed both on electric scales

    Wii Remote + Batteries = 146grams
    PS3 six axis = 128grams

    Wii remote is heavier.

    To be honest,
haven't really missed it..........rumble has been incorrectly used for a long time, mainly because the current implementation of it in this next-gen and previous gens hasn't been tactile enough..
Immersions new tech is potentially very interesting (as long as it isn't industry buzz) and compatible with tilt tech, offering a much greater variance in response and sensation (i.e. realistic individual bullet fire, ricochet, tyres over gravel and tarmac etc)..
Its a developing tech so it would be nice to see it evolve into the next Xbox, Nintendo, PS3 rumble (?) etc etc..

P.S. the only time I've missed some sense of feedback on the PS3 is with Motorstorm..
