    Empire
Star Trek XI (still awaiting a name concerning wraths, voyages or journeys of something) will go back in time to a place two men have gone before: the early years of Spok and Kirk at Star Fleet Academy. No casting is yet in place.

He did a decent job with MI:III but I'd have thought that JJ's real skill is in writing scripts, not directing - that's what's visible to me in earlier episodes of 'Lost' and in the first few seasons of 'Alias'.
He's good at bringing characters to life and combining it with action, which might be useful in revitalising 'Star Trek' in the way Nolan did elsewhere.

I'd much prefer something that wasn't a prequel of course because now we'll be stuck in a universe where not too much can happen for fear of contradicting 500+ episodes of canon from the series. Not that it affected 'Enterprise' too much though...

    Matt Damon as Kirk?
    Adrien Brody as Spock?
    Gary Sinise as McCoy?

    So says IGN.

I wish Star Trek would just do the decent thing and die tbh.

what made star trek and captain kirkso iconic was the shats overacting as kirk, i just can't see someone like ben awfulek in the role, he can't outcamp the shat.

So, it looks like its gonna be a re-imagining ala BSG, rather than a prequel.

Could be good as they won't be stuck with having to stay in line with the series' and movies :/

that could be good.. although a re-imagining (I hate that phrase) would work better for a series I think... more time to spend fleshing alot of crap out and learning from the mistakes of the previous three star trek series.

voyager and enterprise were not star trek, they were some kind of ****ed up memetically retarded clone series.. the fact that they had the audacity to call themselves star trek voyager and enterprise doesn't mean they actually were star trek.

So true man. I would actually throw DS9 down the pan with Enterprise and Voyager also. It was ok, but dang if it werent mostly dull nonsense about 13 year olds coming of age.

DS9 was by far the best of the shows imo, although I hated it at first. If you haven't watched much of it you should really give it another try. It had it's highs and lows of course: like TNG it started getting really good in the 3rd season, hit it's peak in the 5th but fell apart in 7th imo. And despite appearances it stayed very true to the spirit of TOS.

Battlestar Galactica has inherited many of it's good and bad qualities imo.

Voyager had so much potential—the pilot episode was excellent—but failed to live up to any of it, very disappointing. Enterprise was a joke.

I'm not a huge Star Trek fan but liked The Motion Picture a lot. Also liked DS9, one of the few TV shows I stayed with most of the way and got to know the characters.
