Living in NZ now and will be going through Oz to get home. May spend 2-3 weeks there!

What can i do in that time as it's such a huge country?

I have no ideas on what to do but would be a waste if i didn't go and see Oz while i'm down this way.

You could do three weeks on the east coast. There is plenty to see and do and a week be enough do each city justice.

    1 week in Melbourne

    1 week in Sydney

    1 week in Brisbane

Alternatively if you like it outback do three weeks touring places like Uluru, Broome and Kakadu.

I thought I was the only Boards person here

Why not fly in to one city and spend the next 2-3 weeks traveling to a different one for the flight home.

Good ideas. Will be in Oz for 3 weeks and then flying to Beijing to tour china.

Was told the Great Coastal road was good but know nothing of it! Is it worth the go or is it just a road?

Melbourne is meant to be cool, may try to go there.

    Any advise?

Did the great ocean road over xmas and new year. Great trip.

Flew in to Sydney and drove down thru NSW (Cooma, Jindabyne) to Victoria and on up the Great Ocean Road till we got to Beachport,SA for New Year. Gave Melbourne a miss this time as the ashes was on that weekend and hotels were full.

ive done the great ocean road, its nice but the towns along the way i didnt find great.

Your best option would be to flying into Sydney and sepnd ur 3 weeks working up the east coast and then fly out of Cairns. loads to do from sydney upwards(i wasnt a great lover of sydney but others are), u have byron bay, gold coast, brisbane, sunshine coast and cairns. loads of great places to stop along the way such as Noosa, airlie beach, whitsunday islands etc etc.

Its a cliche, but the Whitsundays boating trip off Airlie Beach. Great fun and very nice. Melbourne is a very cool city, as is Sydney. I prefared traveling around NZ myself, but there are good things to be done in these places in Oz.

The Great Ocean Road in Victoria is a must-see drive. If you get a chance I would recommend staying in one of the guest houses along the coast and getting up at sunrise for a swim or a surf.

I really like it around Byron Bay and Ballina if you are into taking in some scenery and chilling out in Byron Bay.

Last time I was in Byron I sat on the headland watching some drummers and fire-eaters perform. Someone passed me a joint. I am not really into the stuff but I had some anyway and was pretty whacked.

I remember feeling really light headed and going down to the beach to lie down. After a while I was awoken by some girl who was completely starkers. She stood over me smiling asking if I wanted to go for a swim.

Thats the kind of whackiness you get in Byron and I would have to say is one of my favorite places to go for a week to blow off some steam.

    ;)

What I like about Byron Bay is that the weather is pretty good all year round. I suppose thats what attracts the laid back hippy crowd (as well as artists and writers) who just seem to hang out all day long.

Not sure when you are planning on coming to Australia but if you are here in late May it is the whale season. You can get boats out to see the whales splash about which is pretty awesome.

Thats cool. The calving season is usually from the end of May until August. Apart from that there are lots of things about Byron Bay thats cool not least the perpetual summer daze...
