Analogue Cable NTL - Terrible reception

Just wondering if anybody in the Leixlip (North Kildare/West Dublin) is having terrible picture quality from regular NTL Cable?

The picture quality on near all channels, is pretty bad, some are unwatchable.

I'm wondering if it's specific to my house, maybe the cables are running along near a power cable and getting bad noise, or if it's on the providers end.

What does the noise look like? Does it vary with weather?

What's reception like for the neighbours? Those power cables can't be doing any good. I wonder how well insulated/shielded the cable to your home is.

Do you have more than one point? If so, what's reception like on these?

Prob best just to all NTL and get them to come out to check the signal in your house. I had shocking bad signal and it turned out that the connector in the box outside my door wasn't ever crimped correctly. Saw it falloff as he looked at it. Water was getting into the connector thus crap reception.

I couldn't tell you if it varies with weather, but I do know what it looks like generally. Some of the channels look like they are just badly tuned in, with noise apearing all over the screen. Some channels will just have a few thin lines of noise through the picture, that might scan down through the picture.

The neighbours that I know don't have the same service as us, they are either terrestrial, satellite, or digital cable.

I'm not sure exactly if there is power cables running alongside.

There are three points. Reception on two of them is definitely the same bad quality, and I imagine it is the same for the third.

I will probably end up doing this, but just gonna run a few checks see what I can do first.

Turns out one of the points was done by my dad rather than NTL, so I suspect this could be the cause :P

As kerbdog has said, it may be down to bad crimping so. If you ring now, you might talk to a live person before next month.

Nope its crap here in Lucan too, I was just going to start a thread when I saw two already complaining about the quality of picture. Its the worst its been in a long time, knowing the shower who took over NTL I wouldn't put it passed them to weaken the Analog to force customers to take up their Digital Service. They've already screwed up the Broadband service, so I guess it was only a matter of time until they messed the Analog up.

Funny you should mention that Snake, the analogue quality here in Waterford is increasingly poor. The light dusting of 'snow' is obvious once you've spent 10 mins watching the digi feed of the same channel.

Poor analogue quality for subscriber is a good reason to 'upgrade' to digital and increase sales for that shower.

Any number of threads reporting stinky analogue quality ATM.
