Advice & Help Needed With Logo

I've been trying to design a logo that represents Cork City FC supporters, who are exiled outside the county.

The idea was compass points and a football merged with a globe, to symbolise our global dispersion.

I've done a really rough mock-up in Photoshop.
I need advice, criticism and aspire to having a vector image at the end of it all, as I would need it for printing.

We're just a group of football fans so we don't have an income but if it's a really difficult project, I'm sure we could offer some reward.
When I say "we", it's actually just me, with regard to creating this logo.

    Here are the ideas...
I don't need to be told how rubbish my mock-up is, just about the idea and how much work is involved.

    Thanks in advance,
    Exile.

good concept. the colours(although there the cork fc colours) are a bit gaudy.
if you use more subdued pastel versions of them.
remove the shadow from the text also.
maybe try making the scrolls parallel to each other too

i'll do a rendition of it tuesday or wedesday evening, got projects due at the mo.

I'm fairly flexible with the colours and expected that it would need to be reworked. Good to get a professional opinion.

Well you were the only one to offer me an opinion, so I'm grateful for that at least.

    Hi exile,

Love the idea of the compass etc. I always think a good idea is half the battle!!
Anyway, i've a few suggestions for you. Firsltly , is the colour of the ball in the middle blue for a reason, or are you keeping it this colour to make it look more like the globe? I just think its a little dark.

The writing is not very clear, so try and make it contrast more with its back ground and it will stand out more.

Did you make this in photoshop? Try using some filters to soften the edges of the arrows. They look jagged.

I've done a mock up of something which should show you what I mean more clearly. ITs by no means a work of art, but i just wanted to get across what I was saying. Did it in illustrator.

I like what you've done with it.
    Much less cluttered.

I haven't figured out how to use Illustrator and it's not easy to do what you want, using a mouse. Photoshop is the limit of my ability.

Spidermonkey wasn't impressed with my colours and I prefer the tones you've used.

I'll have a look at filters in Photoshop. Might learn something today.

Is there any easy way to transform a low res image into a vector?

logos shouldn't be done in photoshop, you can use the livetrace tool in illustrator, but don't expect too much.

If you want I can do the logo in Illustrator for you.

Send me the Logo from photoshop.

And yes technically logos are best done in Illustrator, but photoshop is fine too, once you've made it large enough and use the vector tools in photoshop, save as eps and all that. If I was doing it in photoshop i'd draw it as twice the size I need it and at 600 dpi.

Ah come here lads, I'm a normal punter off the street, who got Photoshop Elements free with his Canon camera. I have managed to figure it out and create something.

Spidermonkey was trying to fit me in between his course work and Seaner kindly gave me his impression above. I need something I can use for printing though and it will probably end up on a very large banner.

Spot colours are easy to do in Photoshop, it is clear by your response that you don't know how to use Photoshop correctly. I should point out that I am a member of the National Association of Professional Photographers.

If you or any one else wants a quick tutorial on how to create a file with spot colours for print then I will post one. Or I can PM you with a tutorial.

And again, I will draw the logo in Illustrator if you want. But again you can create it in Photoshop for print if you want. Illustrator is the best bet though.

Let me know if you need any help.

This is what Spidermonkey made for me.
It's a combination of my original idea & his creativity.

    Thanks a million, Spidermonkey.

personal opinion ... could be nicer if you put the soccer ball over the map and masked patches ... similar to spidermonkeys original ... but would need to see how it'd look ..
