I have a HP Compaq NC 8430. For a week or so, sometimes the laptop wasn't taking power some of the time, it said the a/c supply was too low. Now it isn't taking power at all so I was wondering if anyone could hazard a guess as to whether it's the laptop or the power adapter thats the problem.

First step - google it. See if it is a known problem with that make and model of laptop.

It is quite possible that the problem is with the connector in the laptop itself. Do you have to "juggle" it to get the laptop powered on? This is a common problem with some laptops.

    1) Try another power adaptor.

    2) Try another battery.

    3) Rip laptop to bits and check the DC board.

    4) Sling laptop at hard wall.

    5) Ask bank for money.

    6) Buy new laptop.
    ;)
