Do you know what the music line up is or when it'll be announced?
I checked out the website, but couldnt find any info.
Also, is there camping facilities for the festival, or do just find your own accomadation? Thinkin about booking flights very soon, any other helpful info would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

Its not a camping festival. Best to book an appartment in my experience. Lineup will be announced end of march/april time. Book flights and accom asap as the prices will only go up the longer you wait

It's very much an urban festival and there'll be loads of gigs on that weekend in Barca which aren't part of the official Sonar line-up. Spoilt for choice basically.

I went three years in a row and I'd recommend it! Start looking for accomodation now too

thanks for all the replies, have the flights booked, only problem is that we don't get into the airport (girona) till 10.30pm, only flight left on the day, so we'll just have to go straight, hopefully we wont miss too much!

Also, accomadation-wise, where would be the best area in the city to get an appartment? I know that there are loads of different venues, but if anyone could reccommend some areas that might be particularly central for the weekend,it'd be a great help! cheers

I stayed in around 5 minutes from Las Ramblas in Barca, which is the main Drinking area, so loads of dopey brits and transexual prostitutes ahoy, lovely!

So maybe a bit more out would be nicer....

I went last year but I dunno if id be up for this years festival as the lineup is nowhere near as good for me anyway, no Hawtin :( No Fieldog !

If I was goin id go Wednesday til Wednesday as there is great djs and acts in the clubs (see Apollo!) leading up to and after the Festival, oh and make sure you go to Mar Bella beach for the parties, saw loads of big djs there playin for free and bumped into Richie Hawtin himself!

Still a lot more to be confirmed, so I aint booked anything yet!

    Lineup :

The Beastie Boys, Devo, Cornelius, and the latest in cosmopolitan music are the highlights of a multi-faceted bill with a party spirit.

The fourteenth Sónar festival will be held this year on 14, 15 and 16 of June.

The festival returns to the Fira Gran Via (M2) area on Thursday's opening night, with the Beastie Boys and Narod Niki on an exclusive double bill loaded with surprises.

Beastie Boys, the best bunch of white rappers of all time, will give us two very different concerts - an instrumental one, "A Gala Event - Exclusive Instrumental Show" on Thursday night in SonarPark which will be an exceptional event on the opening night, and another one featuring all their classics in the Friday session of Sónar Night. On this special night, they will be accompanied by the minimalist techno project, Narod Niki.

Devo, standard bearers of discerning and entertaining post-punk, and one of the cornerstones in the convergence of pop-rock with electronica based on analogue synthesisers and instruments, return to Europe after 17 years. This will be the first date on a European mini-tour and Sónar will be the only festival which they play at.

There are other special moments at Sónar 2007. Heading the festival's usual oriental quota, on his first visit to Spain, is Cornelius. From the land of the rising sun we will also have Romantica, Piana, Kazumasa Hashimoto and Juanji Kubo. China will be represented at the festival for the first time by White, 718 and FM3, accompanied by their popular Buddha Machines.

Today's sound aesthetics and its leading artists are Sónar's calling cards. An example of this is the arrival at the festival of the British dubstep armada with Mary Anne Hobbs, Kode 9 & The Spaceape, Various Production, Skream and Oris Jay. Paris is reborn. A new scene, twisted by the attitude and manners of rock, pop and funk, is revitalising house in the French capital. Top of the bill are Justice, Uffie feat. Feadz and DJ Mehdi. And our contribution to the imminent rave revival includes Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and New Young Pony Club, as well as the remixer whose name is on everyone's lips, Radioslave. Standard bearers like Altern 8 and Fangoria will also be present.

There will be two facets to the l'Auditori programme. Two concerts which combine piano and electronic experimentation will take place in the Oriol-Martorell hall on Friday 15 June. First there will be an exclusive concert by the duo Tristano-Murcof entitled “Not for Piano”. During the second part of the evening, the stage will be taken by the project Alexander´s Annexe feat. Mira Calix.

The Sónar Night classics will be Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Timo Maas and Miss Kittin.
However ,fans of styles like hip-hop, pop-based electronica, experimental and extreme rock will be satisfied with names like La Mala Rodríguez, DJ Nu Mark, Hocus Pocus C2C, Junior Boys, Hey Willpower, Khan Of Finland, Mogwai, Wolf Eyes, KLT (Stephen O’Malley de Sunn o))) and Pita) and the surprising project by the Matthew Dear Live Band.

Sónar 2007 brings you up to date with the current situation on Barcelona's local scene. Among its representatives are Night Of The Brain – the project featuring Cristian Vogel and playing guitar, and Nettle, the new DJ/Rupture vehicle. Fiblanda, Facto Delafé y las Flores Azules and Dorian, among others, will also be present.

The Sónar showcases are unbeatable opportunities to discover different scenes from all over the world. Among the showcases this year are Noble (JP), Innervisions (DE), Lo Recordings (UK), On and On Records (FR), Station 55 (ES) BBC Radio 1 (UK), Ed Banger (FR), Hot as HEL (FI) and Beijing Waves (CN).

Magic, science and sensory immersion in the exhibitions at Sónar 2007. SonarMática, the festival's multimedia area, changes direction and moves towards the world of magic, Sonarama invites visitors to the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica to try something different, the experience of an immersion in the spatial possibilities of sound as a sensory stimulus. In the SonarExtra section, an exhibition at Cosmocaixa Barcelona completes the range of exhibitions with "Physics and Music. Vibrations for the soul”

Once again this year, Sónar by Day will have its normal stages, SonarVillage, SonarComplex, SonarDome and the Hall stage, and its other classic exhibition and promotion areas, SonarCinema, Conferences and Debates, Sonarama, SónarMática and SonarExtra.

You can collect them in the centre of La Rambla or even better in any Fnac shop.

We stayed last year in Diagonal Mar and the beach party was only across the road. This year staying in Polbenau. Again the beach party is only across the road! :D

Yet again another fantastic Sonar weekend, am pretty tired to go into too much details at the mo, but mark this one downasa must go to folks.

Outstanding highlight was Narod Niki on Thursday night, best set Ive ever seen.

Other highlights - Beastie Boys Instrummental setand Richie Hawtin at his imperious best on Friday night.

The beach parties as ever were great. And Magda headlining the Minus party in City Hall on the Sunday night was a great way to finish a class weekend.:D

Its a minimal supergroup doin their stuff live on stage. 8 or 9 of them in it and the line up changes all the time. Ricardo Villalobos is the main man behind it, at Sonar it included Ricardo, Richie Hawtin, Afuken, Luciano, Dandy Jack and others.

MY mate I was with is huge into his house and even he said it was like nothing he's ever heard. They rarely do an event so it was a joy to see them, but I honestly had no idea they would be that good

Raging I missed it this year, (new job - couldnt go) but I might head over for Monegros festival, couple of my mates live there so I might be up for a return trip.....

Barcelona = Minimal Central, great city so it is.....

I read elsewhere that Altern-8 played at this and played a storming set, didn't think the Spanish were into Old Skool Hardcore much.

To be fair its far more a European festival than a Spanish one, and sonar always throws together a very wide variety of acts

Highlights for me were: Modeselektor, Devo, Miss Kitten, Beastie Boys, Ame, Richie Hawtin, Dixon, Château Flight, Justice, Damian Schwartz vs. Tadeo, Matthew Dears's Big hands......was disappointed with Dizzie Rascal and Dave Clarke, but anyhoo...
Narod Niki was meant to be amazing, but we didn't have tickets for the Thursday.
Had a lovely apartment right around the corner from MACBA/Sonar by day, which was also great, quite chilled out, and top it all off with lovely weather. Barcelona itself was deadly, with great food, prices, shops, clubs architecture.,,,all in all a brilliant weekend, definitely going back next year for at least a week, instead of just the 4 nights.
