Googling this kind of stuff is hard so I thought I'd come bother you fine people.

I'm interested in getting this lens Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM, or something like it.

Focal length and aperture I get, but what the hell is EX DC HSM?

EX - Excellent. Sigma's highend line of lenses
DC - Not quite sure, but something related to extra coating on lenses specifically designed for digital cameras
HSM - Hypersonic Motor, Sigma's version of USM

Ok, cool. So none of these things would limit what camera they can be used on? (D70s)

absolutely not. Make sure you get a Nikon mount though :D . Not getting that would limit it's usefulness somewhat.

That lens is great. I've got one and absolutely love it. Color is amazing. And it gets the landscapes/city shots I just can't otherwise get. Weighs a ton, though... you really could kill somebody with it.

I was planning on using it for some quite invasive portraits :)

Doesn't 'DC' mean the same as DX- ie; only suitable for dSLRs? So film and full frame dslrs cant use them?
It's explained towards the bottom of this page-
