Are speakers priced individually or for two?

    Hi,

This might seem a silly question! I am looking to buy a new pair of speakers for my system. Want to spend around the 200/300 mark. When I look online I am never clear whether sites are pricing their speakers as a pair or individually.

For example, rickersounds.ie has Monitor Audio BR2’s listed as £129 ..

    http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=5&SUB=32&ProductID=85

Is that for one speaker? or two?

I have found one site that explicitly says "pair" ... http://www.hifi4less.com/product.php/989/0/

... they are £179 which means either the £129 is a bargain (if its for the pair) or quite expensive (if its for one).

To be honest, it never even occured to me that the price would be for another other than a pair until I started reading some high end speaker reviews and realised the prices they were quoting were definitely for one speaker.

I have emailed the question to richersounds themselves but no response after a couple of days.

In general, are speakers priced as a pair? or not?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Colm

Typical bookshelf and floorstanders are nearly always priced as a pair.

You may find that active studio monitors are listed individually, as are home-cinema speakers (centre channel, left/right rear channels)... e.g. the Kef "eggs" are generally priced per speaker.

Most speakers are in pairs, unless otherwise stated.

I bought from Richersounds recently, and while they can take up to a week to reply to an email query, they do provide great prices and a good service.

I got the RS6 speakers (a pair), the RSLCR (single speaker), and RSFX (pair).

Their prices were way better than anything else I could find in UK/Ireland.

When I was on the lookout for floorstanders, I found some German e-tailers which I thought initially were rather cheap, until I realised they were selling the speakers as single, not a pair.

I'd expect bookshelf speakers though to be sold as a pair, though you're right to query it.

    Thanks for the responses.

I had decided to buy the BR2's on the basis that they are a great price assuming they are priced as a pair. But I have just had the strangest experience with the richersounds website. Yesterday I went through the process of ordering on the website. It brings you through a three stage ordering process. During this process it became apparent that I couldn't change the delivery address to my work address - there is no-one else at home during the day so I usually get online orders delivered to work. I brought the process right to the final page where you get the option to Confirm Order (this is after choosing what you want and, crucially, entering your credit card details). I then abandoned the page because I couldn't see a place to change my delivery address. I then rang them but just got an answering machine. I decided at that stage that I'd make a day of it and drive up to Belfast over the weekend.

So, this evening I am lining myself up for an afternoon drive to Belfast tomorrow, when I get an email from richersounds with a delivery confirmation and a DHL tracking number! It doesn't actually say what is in the delivery and I haven't recieved any previous email with an order confirmation or invoice but I assume these are my speakers that I thought I hadn't actually purchased! I can't log onto the site to check as I don't recall being asked for a password for my account and the "forgotten password" link doesn't seem to be working.

All in all, a peculiar online shopping experience. If I get the speakers eventually then all will be fine but they really need to fix that website - if you don't click the final Confirm Order button, they shouldn't be shipping anything!

    C

Some companies (including RicherSounds) will only ship items ordered online to the billing address. Nothing too unusual there.

But, it does seem a little unusual if you don't click the confirm order that it still processed the order.

Just give them a call on Monday morning and see what they have to say.
