Mockery Examinations [or mocks] for me. ;)

First time I also saw them referred to as "pres" was here. Still as horrid either way.

Pre's. It even says it on the papers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 644 ✭✭✭Mackleton

Ok I'l put my hands up coz I reckon Im who is being referred to here. I used it in a post today without thinnking and I realised after I hadnt heard anyone else call them "Pres." But Im from west cork and everyone one I know calls them Pres, as it happens I hadnt heard anyone use the word mocks at all before I joined boards. Well you know what they say, Tomayto, tomato

I've seen a fair few call them Pres. Only ever on boards, though. That said, always been Mocks to me. Must just depend on the school. Pres sounds weird... pluralising an abbreviation? (That is, presuming it stands for "Preliminaries"). Sounds a lot like other words, anyway. Like peas or priests or somesuch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,746 ✭✭✭✭Misticles

always been "mocks" to me, although ive heard some country folk speak of these so called "pres" :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,500 ✭✭✭✭cson

the mockingtons. the exams designed to mock your abilities :D lol

Only heard of pres here, plus on the skoool.ie website they have a thing called 'taking stock after the mocks' which probably wouldn't sound as fluent if it were 'taking stock after the pre's' ;)

It's "mocks" for Dublin/surrounding areas, "Pres" for eh....those other areas involving wellies and farms etc.

    So's your face.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I've only heard them called Pres down the country, i.e Limerick.

Right, im gonna try and be as nice as i can here :)

As far as i know there is a thread already on the forum that deals with the art history mock, any questions on it should be put in that thread, this thread is about whether you call the exams 'mocks' or 'pres' and has nothing to do with art history ;)

Your only gonna turn people against you by posting irrelevant posts and lessen your chances of someone responding to your question

every1 calls them mocks. why call them pres??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭adam_ccfc

    Pres.

It's basically mocks if you're from Dublin or Meath/Drogheda/any of the other other **** suburbs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 672 ✭✭✭Pure Cork

It's pres in Cork, and probably the rest of Munster too. As usual, we show the rest how it's meant to be done.

Sorry, I meant to specify! Outside of Cork, I'd regard every county as being a **** Dublin suburb. :p

Nope. Little known fact, but you're the only person in the whole country who does art history. Guess you're screwed now!

Despite her text speak, there was little or no need for sarcasm :p

Oh is this true? Try reading every other thread that idiot has posted in and THEN say that.

Yeah, to be honest, I'm not one on banning people, but I think posting off completely topic in.. so many threads, and with such poor regard for general internet etiquette (like, perhaps, not using all capitals, not using text speak, not using excessive punctuation) is a good cause to do so.
However, if her art mock is indeed tomorrow, then she won't be returning after it, and we should all be grand.
Still, it's no reason to miss out on a bit of sarcasm.

am for yer information i will be back after all tomorow whos going to stop me? sad people like u should be banned not people like me.. get over it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

And... what exciting insights will you be giving us when you come back? Asking for hints for another exam you haven't studied for? Once again, brutalising the English language? I just can't wait.

Why exactly should I be banned, now? You seem to know the forum charter so very well and all, maybe you could enlighten me.

    1. Capitalise at the start of a sentence.
    2. "u" is not a word. It's "you".
    3. Two question marks is not necessary.

That's what I'm saying about your English. You're not doing pretty things to it.
    lauraxo wrote:

Haha. No. I'm in fifth year. I'm not doing mocks. Why would I ask for tips?
That'd be pretty illogical, wouldn't it?

Or I can not, and continue on my merry way. : )

Look, i've said it to you already and im beginning to lose my patience, please keep to the thread topic > "Pres or Mocks" ..... that relates in absolutely no way to 'has any got their art history done' (I'm not even gonna bother giving an english grammar lesson here)

Seriously, i'm all for new people coming onto boards (im new myself ffs), but you're not exactly endearing yourself to everyone here by asking the same question over and over. You think after the first 100 times....

Right I think we've done enough flaming for one n00b. So, mocks or pres?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,479 ✭✭✭✭philologos

I haven't heard it being called pres at all.
