New/Old Model Golf or Leon???

Hi,

I'm considering getting rid of the owl Mondeo that I currently drive.

The current favourites are:

2005 SEAT LEON (old model)
2004 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (old model)

or saving up for a while and going for either of the following:

2006 SEAT Leon (new model)
2005 Volkswagen Golf (new model)


I'm also slightly tempted to go the cheaper option and go for a 2004 VAUXHALL VECTRA saving about 4-5k.

What do you all reckon about the above cars and why?


Personally, I'm drifting towards saving up for a year and going for the new model Leon... possibly the 2.0 16V TDI Sport version!!!

Not a big fan of the new leon -looks wise!

Made a similar decision a year ago, was caught between leon and golf (few years older than you though). Most people will say the leon, since its cheaper with better spec, and similar underpinings. I went for the golf though purely because of resale value. Obviously you could be lucky and find a bargain. Also the new focus could be a consideration.

From a resale point of view you would probably be better off saving up a bit longer and going for the current models. The old models age very fast as they get older which makes them less popular second hand. Plus the safetly, refinement and technology improvements will be far better in the newer models.

On the other hand though if your not too bothered about having the latest and greatest you could buy the old models alot cheaper and run them into the ground.

when i was looking around last year I looked at the new leon and the new golf, i preferred the leon. It looks good and you get a lot for your money. didn't go for it in the end but would have it over the golf..

I'd like something with a bit of power but also practical.... I'm 24 with 4 years no claims...

What about the following car which I could import:
