Wii question: Is it a gimmick? Or genuinely good?

Well? Is it? Not sure if i'll get one or not. I don't think i could get it without getting one of the other consoles. But plenty of other PS2 games had gimmicky add ons that were good for a day or 2. I'm afraid to get the Wii in case the whole console will be the same.
So give me a genuine answer: Is it really good, are you delighted you spent your hard earned cash on it, or it it a bit crap? Do you feel a bit stupid waving the controller around in your sitting room on your own? I had the eyetoy, I know the feeling:rolleyes:

90% of my gaming involves Pro Evolution Soccer so I was thinking about getting a PS3/360 and a Wii. But i think i'd need a Wii for a few days before I could make up my mind. Can i borrow yours?:D :D

I have to say I am lovin my wii. Since I got it at Christmas, it's gotten turned on almost every evening. Its genuinely a great system IMO, think the Wiimote is great, love it!!!
However, with the game shortage at the moment, dont think I'd enjoy it as much if it wasnt online, With VC and the various channels to mess round with when your not playin the games. I use the weather channel a bit!!
    Really enjoyin Excite truck atm!!

The games drought at the moment should be ok by march, a few good ones comin out.

If it was stolen in the morning, i'd def buy it again!!

    Glad I have one!!! :D

Definitely not a gimmick. I have no regrets about buying my Wii.

It's both, really. A gimmick that turns out to be pretty damned awesome. I'd queue up outside the shop at 6:30am before going to work all over again.

Some of the games can get a bit gimmicky(such as wii play) but overall it is a brilliant system and it was the best purchase i ever made.

My house was the best purchase I ever made (lets keep things in perspective here!) :)

The Wii has massive potential that just hasn't been realised you. Playing wii sports gives an idea of just how much. When the games manufacturers get used to the new control system then they'll come out with games that are much more playable than ones with better graphics on a PS/3 or 360. My arm was sore from playing Tennis the first few days!

However I think that the sports games can be made to utilise much more accurate control. As they are now, they are great fun for both young and old but when Pro golf comes out for example I'd bet it will be much more responsive to swing movement.

Got it on launch day and it's been on for at least 2 hours every day since (some days it's been on for 10!). It really is a great system although there is a shortage of games atm. Considering how well it's still selling (it's still difficult to just walk into a shop and pick one up) I reckon it's only a matter of time before some serious third party support kicks in coupled with ninty's first party titles. A number of developers have already setup dedicated teams just for Wii development and there's a number of potentially great games not too far away already. The online features are pretty good too (I use the weather channel regularly and I can spend 1-2 hours easily at a time on the news channel) coupled with the VC releases. Everyone that's played the Wii in my house has loved it and 3 of them have since bought one (2 of which were PS2 diehards) with the rest wanting to pick one up as soon as they're widely available.

having a house in castleconnel now thats a good purchase alright, posh part of the city people

as for my wii if they can make something really magnificent out of the controller (which im yet to see) then we can scrap this gimmicky image

one major plus about it is the lack of faulty consoles[im one of only 2 cases i know of -on LOTS OF BOARDS]

its not a gimmick, its just a new and much more natural way of controlling games like

Its a great machine, but just kinda borin at the mo if you've already finished Zelda and gotten sick of Wii Sports

    Warioware is class

And theres loads good 'Cube titles out there [Resi 4 and the remake to name some]

Ocarina of Time will be available soon on Wii Channel for 1,000 points [abt €11]

I do think a lot were throw together to reach the deadline of Launch day, and some seem a bit useless, like Kororinpa, the marbly yoke

Anyway, if ye've got a decent sized telly, its fun

It is made to be a family console, hence most game out atm bein pro-group play

Just give it time and we'll get some good stuff, for example Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles [yes, i love Resi!!!]

    Not a Gimmick, no way!

Bought at launch and I play it as often as I can, it is a time hole.

Games I have currently: Zelda, Red Steel, Monkey Ball and Excite Truck. And a load of VC games.

I'll be buying a few in March, probably SSX and another depending on reviews.

Not regretting it at all. Well Designed and I believe this will be THE console for FPS and RTS's.
