Setanta are charging €9 extra for subscription to a second Digibox on
    Sky Digital.

That brings the total charge to €27 per month.

This is not fair for any consumer and we should fight this excessive charge.

Surely if we provided details of our multiroom subscription to Setanta, they should wipe the fee.

So Please sign this petition for free multiroom viewing on Sky digital for Setanta sports

If we don't stand up and shout we will not be heard!!

Sky arn't Setanta or vice versa. Separate companies. Setanta is not part of Sky sub. Sky don't do Multiroom free.

    Why should anyone else?

Your logic is faulty. You can only complain that you think the Setanta Mirror sub at €9 is too expensive,

I'm on a Sky €22 euro pack. A mirror sub would be an extra €15 to Sky.

So €18 for first box and €9 for second Setanta is actually Cheaper than Sky.

It is just that on higher packs the Sky discount is higher, but this has no connection with Setanta.

Sky gave the box. Not Setanta. Sky have a right to charge for it.

Ntl Or Chorus do not charge for premium channels per box.

So if you have setanta on Chorus multiroom or NTL multiroom there is no extra charge
    for setanta per box.

    Fair Point!!! No!!

If Setanta want customers can they not give the mirror for free???

obviously a flaw in their plan. did Setanta not give a reason for this?

do you already subscribe to Setanta on satellite?

But Setanta need to get paid or they will have no customers and no money to buy sport. Cable is different. There is no-one on cable without NTL contract. No-one gets paid by customer. NTL pays Setanta and decides what to charge for each pack.

Satellite is a different model. Setanta are only using Sky encryption. They are not "on Sky". Setanta actually must pay Sky for the encryption services. Thus Setanta can't be free on basis of what you might or might not have.

In fact it is probabily possible to cancel Sky and still pay Setanta.

With Cable you ONLY get the box from the operator and it belongs to the operator.

With satellite Sky do not own the box. Sometimes they subsidise or even give it away, that is irrelevent. You own your box. You can buy one and just get a subscription or just watch Free TV. This is quite different to cable.

No I didn't already sign up.

I am just making the point that we are being ripped off.

Whats the difference between this and a petition for rte going fta.

Everyone just wants rte to be free on satellite.

I want and I am sure there are others who think Setanta should not charge
for us to watch their channels on another box as is the case with cable.

Why does satellite have to much more expensive.

Remember its Sky who run the service. So As far as I am concerned there should be no extra charge by Setanta. Why can't we book then through Sky like everything else.

If you now want a multiroom sub for Digital Satellite with the sports channels,
it will cost €100 euro a month. Yes €100

An everyone thought SKy had a monopoly. Now look.

We would only be paying €73 if it was just Sky who had everything.
But thats a story for another day!!!

I think you did not read my post.

Sky do not run Satellite, they sell services on it.

    I only pay €22, not €73 and I have 7 satellite receivers.

Just because NTL subsidises some packages (cable is a differently structured market with NO free channels), doesn't mean anyone else should.

Setanta are not part of Sky package. It would be great of more broadcasters where not. Then they could have more bargaining power to force Sky to reduce their overly expensive encryption & epg charges. Then viewers would get cheaper packages.

Your concept would give Sky more power.

The Issue with RTE is not really FTA (That is chasing Rainbows), but the rights RTE gave away for almost nothing in return to Sky. There should be a better RTE deal with broadcasters. Possibly dual Encryption with a NON-Sky FTV card.

Sky is under-regulated and has almost a monopoly. Compared to a Basic Sky package, Setanta actually already give a bigger discount for Multiroom.

There are arguments that you should be able to have one subscription per household for any number of digiboxes. But there are snags with that idea.

If Setanta offerred 2nd subscription for free, it would be exploited by card sellers. Setanta GB doesn't offer live Saturday afternoon Premiership football. Entrepreneurial Setanta Ireland subscribers would apply for free additional subscriptions & sell the cards on. Sky Digital control this by insisting that the mirror card STB is connected to a phone. Ntl and Chorus boxes are of course connected by a cable.

    Jungle Boy,

You just said it in your reply above.

Setanta don't supply the cards. Its on Sky Digital which means it is already protected.

    Thats the point here.
