A handy gallery of your flickr pictures

Sometimes I want to show my pictures to people but find that they look better on an uncluttered black background and the flickr interface is a bit too happy happy shiny shiny bubbly bubbly - if you know what I mean... anyway this might be common knowledge but there's a site called splashr that has some lovely little gallery creators with different options. I like this one:

    http://splashr.com/show/black/70184196@N00/100

That's the basic black flash frames option. I think the interface is pretty self explanatory. I have trouble finding my username so I tend to use my email address instead, with no problems.

The only annoying bit is that you can only show up to 100 pictures at a time. But it's also nice to be able do a show with particular tags...

    :):):):)

I prefer that interface to flickr - but maybe not to the flickr black one that fajitas uses sometimes.

In the splashr version it seems to introduce artifacting on the images - not sure if this is because it forces a re-size of them to fit the same format ?

Good link Julie, the flickr api itself is priceless...its changed my life since i started using it. I do all my organization through flickr and have my own front end. I have it linked with a flash FE and through PHP. It shows all my flickr galleries and anything new i add to flickr is automatically picked up as soon as i add it to a galelry. Its definitely worthwhile looking into for anyone familiar with some web\dev...

Hmm, I hadn't noticed any artifacting that was too distracting, as far as I can tell it would use the standard sizes that are generated by flickr when you upload rather than resizing again for it's own use, so they would be the same quality as what you'd get on your usual flickr page. It could well be the black backgound that makes some things more noticeable, though.

I like the bighugelabs 'On Black' too but it's a bit of a pain to have to do it for single pictures. I liked this because it's a gallery type thing, and it's nice and clean looking.

FreeAnd... I wish I was geekish enough to actually do my own front end, really, but I'm too busy just taking and processing them to put in that kind of work ;) Will go and have a nosey at yours now though, if you have a link there!

The shots are compressed alright ,I'm seeing the blocks that appear when a photo is not suitable for a screen size. Not resized.
Maybe it only has problems on small monitors.

nice idea, pity it fecks up the photos. Each pixel is about the size of a ford fiesta.

That'll be because it uses flash, then?

    Feck.

There are some HTML based ones there too, though... just not as pretty.

    No problem Julie...

this link shows the php - it pulls all my galleries from flickr

    http://www.thetrueview.com/php/index.php

this link is for flash - i havent gotten round to breaking this by gallery yet and as such it just links to one big gallery

    http://www.thetrueview.com/flash/index.html

None of this involved much work, flickr gives the details through its api pages and searching on google can do the rest..
