As far as I know you don't get your money back at all i.e. you lost it. I think you only get your money back after the 3 day declarations are announced.

I'd advise you to read through the help section on the Paddy Power website, especially the part on Ante Post betting. Bad luck on the bet.

Best laugh I've had in ages and one of the main reasons I wouldn't touch ante post.

If your that confident, increase your stake on the day is what I say.

Those who laugh at ante post punters are as big as mugs as they perceive ante post punters to be. Like with all punting there are ways of doing it right, and ways of doing it wrong, but those who flippantly dismiss all ante post bets as mug punts with a haughty attitude often miss the point.

well put morgans-betfair should be the tool of choice in my opinion for antepost bets -but always lay off if the chance or oppertunity arises -

    omg... ha

antepost betting is tricky but is also fun and with the bigger prices you can choose more horses that you fancy in the race and still make a big profit.

its annoying when a horse drops out of the race and this is why its best to choose a few horses:)

If you're laughing at the OP's lost bet, I think you're a bit ignorant.

We all learn from our mistakes. I've had some ante-post bets go tits up on me, and I've also had some work out for me as well. Ante-post is very risky, but as long as you are not lumping on I think it's worth the risk. If you asked me this before Christmas my POV would have been different.
I have some healthy ante-post bets for this years Cheltenham festival, I've also had a few go down the drain.

Damn it to hell i could have got a hamburger with that euro.

I for one am not laughing at the OP lost bet, more the naivety of the wait for the bet to be refunded.

It never ceases to amaze me how people hand over hard earned cash without fully knowing under what the circumstances are.

It might have only be tongue in cheek by the OP and only a euro, but are there really people who will have a wager on something without consideration for the basis of that wager?

We all have to start somewhere though. It is unrealistic to think that someone will spend years learning about horses, betting and gambling in general without parting with some cash. When I first started betting, I did not know all the rules. How could I? I know that I certainly lost a lot of money in the early days through ignorance. Sometimes trial and error are the only way to learn this game. Lucky enough, it only cost the OP a quid, and he will know next year.

    ditto.

if i see in big writing over the race im backing on "ante post rules apply" im gonna make damn sure i find out what ante post rules are. there are no excuses for this imo.

i think boards shud change its name to aggro.ie. relax and breathe.

mdW i throw a few quid here and there not hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands so im not really into looking at the finer points of the contracts i enter.

and to bluetonic i think, last time i checked i was still my money soooooooo i guess i can do wat ever the f*ck i want with it with out gettin a lecture. OK

Lets call off the witch hunt. Bluetonic and mdwexford in this case are right to laugh. If you got your stake back for every non-runner ante post bet, life would be very easy for the punter. I can see the funny side.

If the op didnt know, he will learn. If he did and was joking all the better.

Just to repeat my point (and not to be included in the torch bearing mob out for bluetonic and mdwexford's blood):) was that ante post is a very lucrative (and very satisfying) punting mechanism for some. And people who act as superior punters because they dont do ante post invariably do ante post wrong.

I'm not speaking as a Moderator of this forum when I say this, I'm speaking as a regular user because that's all I consider myself. This forum doesn't need moderation - only when someone like finnpark or a spambot posts on here is moderation needed.

I don't think laughing at another posters mistake/selection should be welcome on here. I do not want new users to this forum afraid to post for fear of being laughed at, or ridiculed when they have a question. None of us were born with the racing bible under our arm. I'm sure everyone can appreciate this?

I'm all up for having a laugh, and the one thing I notice (as does everyone else) about this forum is it's lack of humour, so I'm not saying we're shouldn't have a laugh on here, but when it's a laugh at someone else's expensive it's a different story.

I do find this situation humourous because the stake was one euro, mind you.

Or am I just being a Ninny?

man do u know how many oral transactions in the park i have to preform for 1 euro. it might be a joke 2 u guys but man does my neck ache. anyway off the point. thanks for the answering of my Q and now i shall say good day. i said good day sir.

i agree Morgans re ante post betting, there is nothing more satisfying than at the festival when your banker cruises home and people have backed him at 7/4 on the day and you whip out a docket with 25/1 on it from last october. the added value you get from a big winner should hopefully cancel out any non-runners you may end up with.

but sjones cmon now, if ante post betting worked like the op thought we'd all be queuing down the bookies as soon as Cheltenham prices go up and backing the whole field at massive prices, no risk. its sssoooo obvious that a non runner = loser. i find the original post hilarious.

Let be honest if the new user is going to have an attitude (like below) then down with new users, burn them at the stake.

OP, it's a public forum and if you post something you can expect it to be commented on, be lectured at, be criticized and whatever else that entails. Thats part and parcel of the boards.ie experience - lighten up, any tips?
