I'm trying to lay my hands on a strat neck and, so far, Warmoth's customer service has been... let's say... uninspiring. Anyone ordered from them before, have and tricks for getting a response from them?

That's coz I told them to block your IP and just generally ignore you.

What business do you have with Warmoth and more specifically with a Strat neck? Huh? Explain yourself! :p

It's better if you don't know.

i'd say USACG are streets ahead of warmoth in terms of product quality, options, and service!

for what it's worth the founder left warmoth when he found the standards dropping, though they don't say that on the site anywhere

Yeah but I really want a Fender headstock, I'm not mad on the USACG one so it's them or Musikraft...

Got a reply from yer man this evening... only two days after his first reply

the UASCG headstock is easily modified into the fender shape, ten minute job!it's only different to beat the copyright issue

They're 10 minutes I'd rather spend chugging out riffs. Besides, the Warmoth one is $50 cheaper than a similar spec USACG.

I'd suggest Stewart MacDonald; I ordered a Tele neck from them before, and their customer service was fantastic. Plus, the standard shipping got it to me in two days.

They're made by Mighty Mite under license from Fender, so the headstock shapes are perfect. Check them out:

Got a mighty mite jazz bass neck before, twas about 2mm wider than a Fender neck so I had to route the neck pocket for it to fit. That was ok, it was an unfinished body, but this neck is for something special, I'm not going to gamble with Mighty Mite again. Besides, I'm looking for a quartersawn maple neck with reverse headstock and black ebony fretboard with no dots, MM don't make em.

Fair enough, you know what you want!

I'll bear that in mind about the neck - my Tele was fine, but it's worth being cautious.

Yeah, it was a bit of a shock alright. It's a nice neck but if I had bought it for a fullt finished body I'd be a bit gutted.

    Go on then :p

You know of my band and you know the strat won't cut it in that way and you, above anyone else, know it's unforgivable for a strat to go neglected.

    So, with that in mind...

gonna put this on my strat

stick in one of the cleaned up Gibson humbuckers off the V which sounds very nice indeed, add that neck from Warmoth, a set of 14-62s tuned to B

and it should end up something like this

    strat.jpg

    and chug chug chug :D

Does it meet with your approval or is it strat blasphemy? :)

Normally, I would have unleashed Igor (ex-KGB) on your ass. Or maybe even Ahmed.

But for recognizing the truth that
it's unforgivable for a strat to go neglected
I'll let you off the hook. :p

Where are you getting the body from?

If you want, I can give you a unique ultra-limited-edition-Ancient1-relic'd-custom body. €5. :D

    I've a see-through white AmSe with a neck I don't like... remember? :)

Oh no, you're modding/butchering the one that had the weird case of checking? :(

She probably just didn't like you man and developed an allergy! :p

Although, on second thought, that does leave you with the spare neck....

    hint hint

Yeah, the first neck was a work of art, but it disintegrated after less than a year. The neck they replaced it with is fine and all... but it just doesn't feel like the first neck :(

I'm not butchering it though, it's all entirely reversible without making any permanent mods: The beauty of the strat :D

    Allow me to elaborate ;)

Take one formerly superb but now kinda ok strat

    strat1.jpg

Add one of these, except dig a hole for a tone pot into it

    strat2.jpg

Take off the whole scratchplate and electronics so it's only a 10 minute job to go back to 100% strattiness

    strat3.jpg

Bish bash bosh, stick in an old gibson 57 classic

    strat4.jpg

Add some 14-62 strings and tune to B

    strat5.jpg

And hey, it chugs very well indeed. Roll on Phase II :D

Indeed. A thorough run-through of A National Acrobat was required to ensure it complied with the required standards :)
