    I downloaded AOL AIM for mac. Its a .bin file. However when i try to install it, i get an error message saying "Quicktime can play movie"!! How to i install apps with this extension?

    It basically converts the file to an MPEG which is somewhat easier to use.

    .bin is a compressed archive format. Use Stuffit Expander to decompress the file and install AIM.

    Stuffit is a must-have mac utility.

    Kind of off topic, but I'd recommend using iChat over the official AIM client. It's a lot less commercialised.

    If you can, download a version of Stuffit 9 to open bin files. There's a known issue with v11 that causes some (*edit) bins to take hours to expand.

    Also, depending on your type of Mac, AFAIK .bin files are historically not Universal Binaries. They normally use the standard disc image format for Mac (.dmg) for this.

    If you want to run older binaries, try the Classic OS utility in OS X.

    i have a .bin file that wont open with stuffit. its a movie part of a .cue file. stuffit says it is not a compressed file...

    any ideas how to get the file to burn to dvd then i can go from there..

    Both Burn and Toast will handle bin/cue files.
