How-To Antenna / System Setup

    Hi All,

Apologies if this is raking over old ground on this forum, if there are any links to where the information may be summarised already that would be appreciated.

Just looking for some reception / system advice. I have a VERY rough idea of what would be required to put the system below together, but there are BIG gaps in my knowledge.

What I'm trying to do is recieve Terrestrial UK channels and Irish channels. Also trying to receive Satellite FTA channels.

    Location: South Dundalk

What I have been thinking I would need is the following:

    2 UHF Antennas.
1 Pointing at Divis transmitter for UK channels. This would be a group K antenna Horizontally Polarised.
1 Pointing at Clermont Carn transmitter for Irish channels. This would be a group C/D antenna Vertically Polarised.

I would also like to install a FTA Satellite system to combine with the above.

    My Questions:
    1) Does the combination of Antennas and Satellite seem feasible / sensible. Is there possibly a simpler setup ?

    2) Could anyone advise me on what kind of external and internal combiners / splitters I would need to facilitate the above (and how to configure them)?

    3) Could anyone advise me on what kind of distribution amplifiers would be best to facilitate the above?

    4) Any other advice on the overall configuration of the system ? e.g. makes and models of recommended Antennas / other equipment

As I mentioned Apologies if this is raking over old ground on this forum. Any advice would be appreciated.

You also need channel filters or RTE can look nasty.

Adding satellite is simple. It uses its own coax & dish and feeds TV via SCART.

A group combiner with RTE on the D and the other on ABC

    Thanks for the reply Watty.

Could you possibly be a little more explicit on the detail of the components you mentioned? i.e. what I would need to get and how I would use them.

Unfortunately they both unfamiliar items to me?

@wagishness you could probably combine all three with one unit ,have a look at the Spaun or better in my humble opinion the Johansson website www.johansson.be who do a huge range of gear which you can buy from their Irish agent McGrath electronics in Castlebar 'phone no; 0949031470 and a nice guy to deal with too.

    Thanks John Dough and Byte.

I had a look at the Spaun and Johansson sites and got lots of good information and ideas.

It certainly helps to get pointed in the right direction!

By the way would you have any recommendations of Aerial/related equipment suppliers in the Dublin area?

    Thanks.
