'Heroes' wins it for Sci-Fi

Heroes proved a ratings winner for the Sci-Fi channel last night, with the first episode pulling in the channel's highest ever audience and best multi-channel prime time position in its 12 year history.

The show attracted an audience of 622,766 adults and a 4.3% share, and generated the highest prime time TVR (percentage of potential audience viewing a channel) of 0.94 and a 2.4% share.

Nick Betts, Sci-Fi's managing director, said: "This result is a spectacular way to start the series' run. It more than validates the belief we had in the show the moment we saw it at last year's LA Screenings and reflects the hard work everyone at Sci-Fi has put into launching it."

Billed by the channel as "Lost meets X-Men", Heroes follows the tale of a group of ordinary people who discover they have special powers that will ultimately change the world.

The show has been hit in the US, giving NBC its best new show performance for 5 years, and a weekly audience of over 15 million, as well as receiving two Golden Globe nominations.

Saw this for the first time last night, that was the best Pilot I have seen in ages. A great blend of Sci-fi, humour and horror. One to watch I reckon. :)

thing is though. it gets much better. the pilot was poor compared to later episodes

Another Heroes noob here, watched the pilot and second episode last night. I'd heard good things, but it still surpassed my expectations, I thought it was absolutely excellent. I can't wait to see more :)

the pilot in itself is pretty mediocre except it builds up the stroy as being an epic - and so far it seems to be snowballing that momentum: but Im more than halfway through the season so I'll only say to the rest of you that you should stick with this one, its quite good. Go hiro! \(^u^)/

I'm suprised Sci-fi got the rights to it, they always seem to be dishing out the scraps that are a few years old.

I reckon Sci-Fi (UK) got some heavy investment from their US counterparts who are a very popular channel in the US and felt it was about time that the UK channel started making an impact in the ratings.

I agree: Sky had held the rights long before Sci fi got a hand on them, and there was no way they were letting it go. Im glad to see they finally have some real viewer potential.

It'd be a great aul channel if they just stopped putting on all the low budget soft porn movies late at night. I always think that time slot is their time to shine and then bam, you get a hugely boring film that has some vague sci-fi theme... like "oh yeah, those silicone implants are actually from outer space. True story.".

UK Sci-Fi is not affiliated with the US Sci-Fi, except by name AFAIK. So the US branch wouldn't have financed it.

Not sure where they got the cash flow for it. When I was in Edinburgh there, there was an ad for 'Heroes' on pretty much every bus shelter that I saw. I can assume a similiar campaign swept the UK. Certainly it's very visible which would explain the initial viewing figures, although describing it as "the new 'Lost'" is a bit of an insult to 'Heroes' ;)

The various SciFi channels are not tied directly to each other but they are all owned by NBC Universal. It's the reason why SciFi UK have got Heroes.

I'm with you on that one, i'd heard great things about heroes so started watching it online, was a bit put off by the pilot episode cause of the way it kept popping from one person to another. Although i'm quite impatient so i just wanted to know how they were all connected:o !!

But by about ep3 I was hooked:D !! Watched like 5 ep's in one evening, waiting for one of them to end on something not too interesting!!

Can't believe they stopped it though, not back till april cause of america's march madness!! It's coming back right towards the end of semester when everythings due in!! Hopefully i don't get too distracted:rolleyes: !!

Oh it makes sense. Just have another read through it.

SoSueMe's ratings posts always make for an interesting read.

So there's been a bit of a ratings drop over the first four episodes - but that's no surprise really. Most shows take a bit of time to find their audience.

I'm assuming half a million viewers is still excellent for Sci-Fi: any idea what say "Lost" gets on Sky One? Also what's the % of households that can get it vs that SciFi?

no it's not. in fact that would be illegal

Sci Fi UK would have had to bid like everybody else

Sci-Fi's closest show seems to be Medium with 215,000. So Heroes is way above anything else.

According to SoSueMe's posts on the Lost forum it gets about 1.1 million viewers a week on Sky. But again Sky is a far more accessible channel. I'd imagine a lot of people wouldn't go near the Sci-fi channel because of it's name... hell I even hate it's name as I've always hated the term Sci-fi being used for Science Fiction.

I wonder how it has done on Channel 6. Anyone have ratings for it?

The ratings for Lost (Sky One and RTE2) are in the Lost forum. The Channel 4ratings for season 1 & 2 are there if you search.
