Took the plunge and flew to France to this weekend to see a '72 350SL - and buy it. Car was as good in the flesh as the pics I'd seen, with a complete engine rebuild 30,000 miles ago (105K on clock).

Drove from just south of Bordeaux to Cherbourg and then Rosslare to Dublin - didn't skip a beat.

    Pics are only cameraphone:

    Pic one
    Pic two
    Pic three
    Pic four

Yes - that manky spoiler on the back is coming off pronto! :)

Nice looking car, good colour too. I see it's RHD and it doesn't have the French yellow headlights, was it orignally brought in from the UK?

    Thanks!

The car is a UK car (4 previous owners from the history file). I bought it from an English couple who brought it with them to France about 10 yrs ago. Amongst a load of spares it even came with Euro style headlights for driving on either side of the road.

Don't mean to be rude, but how much did it cost?
I'm very keen to buy my 1st classic car, preferably a Mercedes where did you find this car advertised?
Any help in locating a classic merc abroad would be much appreciated :)

Spider still for sale (guiding at €4K now).

Have had plenty of calls, though I haven't been in the country for the last four weekends so it's been tough to show. Someone coming to look at her on Thursday though. In the meantime AXA charged me only €25 to add the merc on my classic policy - result!

Ha! Before you go ringing them, I had explained that I was selling the FIAT and that two cars was only an interim thing. The guy said that as my policy was up for renewal at the end of March, we'd look at the situation then if I still had two classics - in the meantime €25 would cover me until then including the French roadtrip. :)
