What is the new monument meant to be? Is it suppose to represent a ships sail waving in the wind.

For those who havent seen it yet, it is on the roundabout at the church

Apparently it's going to host two signs visible to traffic coming into the town. One sign will point straight ahead and say 'locals', the other pointing to the new road saying 'blow-ins' ;)

Its a f*cking horrible lump of corrugated steel, what kindergarten did that artist get their degree from?

I like the idea of locals slash blow-ins signposting, maybe the blowins one could say, blow ins, and have a u turn sign with the distance to Dublin city centre on it? :D

I like the way that they sneaked it onto the roundabout, I drove by only an hour or two before and it wasnt there! Must've been fast rope dropped from a speeding helicopter.

Im sure the wind will blow it over. A nod at our towns historical Mill or Fishing heritage would've been much better appreciated. EVEN A GIANT WAVIN PIPE!???

half the blowins aren't exactly there by choice but more house prices which of course poses more problems for the village!

A monument made of wavin pipes ...that would be pretty cool

It must be 'Art' ... because most of us haven't a flippin' clue what it's about at all. :D:D

Was looking at this last nite as I drove past it. Jaysus, I hope they are taking the p*ss or at least paint it blue or something!

A bag of chips would be appropriate, to symbolise the massive chips on the shoulders of the "locals".:D

True enough, we could make sure there was loads of vinegar on it to symbolise the sour pusses of the blow ins. ;)

As President of Fingal (see other thread) I hereby declare that the monument shall be removed and turned on its side and used outside the new town hall as a bus shelter roof.

As a new monument and in keeping with the demands of the people to alleviate ourselves of local criminals (see Thieving scum targetting Balbriggan?) We shall now plant a number of pointy stakes into the roundabout, all criminals arrested over the coming weeks will be publically executed by beheading in the square on sunday afternoons. Their heads shall be placed on the stakes to warn off other such vagrants.

Anyone here handy with an axe? even a blunt saw?

Parking fees around the square at the beheading times will be waived.

"Sunday DeCap" Tickets are on sale in Extra Vision and the Discount Store. Prices vary depending on blood spatter levels but OAP's and children under 8 are free.

Beheading times will be announced on the Parish noticeboard inside the church.

Fun Raffles such as "Take A Swing" and "Spike the Head" will occur between beheadings (one for each beheadee) allowing lucky winners the chance to try their hand at Decapitation with a free lesson from the town Executioner or to mount a head of their choosing, on spikes at the new roundabout monument.

There will of course be a clown show after the beheadings... just to give the kids something to watch.

Visa holding blow-ins returning from Dublin, please note, The inner ring road will be closed during beheadings due to the large numbers expected at spikings on sunday evenings, traffic will be diverted via the balrothery to Sweetmans cross road.

Balbriggan council, in their omnipotent wisdom (see town planning) envisage the cultural beheadings as a means to both eliminate crime and to nurture a fun community spirit betweem locals and blow-ins over time.

Can this blow-in nominate the first two candidates for beheading?

No1 The "artist" who designed the monument.
No2 The genius who authorised paying him/her for it.

It was chosen as the winner following a national competition. I like it. :)

OK we'll give them a right of appeal - if the assembled masses at the beheading declare that they like it then they can be pardoned:) :)

Seconded, and to add a third, whoever designed the roundabout there, the other one at Sonopress and the road going around Sonopress onto Harry Reynolds Road!

A little pic for those who haven't seen it. :)

Taking bets on how long until some maniac 'forgets' about the roundabout and ends up impaling their car onto the monument?

ps. Read in the Fingal Indo that the monument is supposed to represent the fishing ommunity and the upholstery history of the town

I'd vote for a 3m high bronze scratch-n-sniff (Guinness, p!ss & cheese) statue of Tubby Confrey.

You are showing your age now Hill Billy :D

I have to hand it to you though, that is one of the better suggestions.:) :):)

God, Confreys stocked everything, (Except Condoms and Ice-cream!) their cellar must have been bigger than your standard Ikea.

I wonder where Tubby, Walter and Paddy are now?

    Anyone know?

    Chopperdog:

Do you remember the cabinet behind the bar? It was amazing - dusty spirit bottles in one half & pigeon feed in the other. Not to mention the nicotine stains literally dripping down the walls. Class!

Must try & pop up to see you soon for a few rounds & a pint.
