    Hey hey,

Just watched it. Interesting episode. I find it interesting how relationships still struggle, especially in the worst of times. I am glad the Chief and Calli are alright. Didnt really like that side of Admiral Odama. Just get it on with Laura already, for the sake of the fleet!!

Wanna get back to the final five storyline, and Baltar... dunno how I feel about Lee being involved in that. He does my head in..!!

Man, they're really holding back the Baltar trial thing for later on, they either have a relly big season finale coming up with the trial or something different after the trial (if there's only five episodes left like last season, tv.com says there is)

Anyhoo, bit of a slow episode until the last bit really, but it was good to see into Adamas past.
Although he now seems a bit mental to me, I only hope he imagines talking with his wife in his head once a year instead of all the time!
    That could be disatrous! :p

Slow paced episode but pretty insightful.
I liked the Adama moments with his Ex wife.
Didnt care much for the Cally Chief storyline.
Child Care on the Galactica, now that I can do without .
Only 5 episodes left and then a 9 month drought .:(

still not sure how i feel about this episode, yeah, it's pure filler, but at the same time they manage to show us a little of adama and lets face it, he's not got alot of that.

Adamas job is to be a badass and it's nice to learn a bit more about him.

I'm wondering where the end of season will go, a trial with baltar is a given, but what of the cylons? Just the way they mentioned it's been 49days or so since they last has a contact, which makes me think they'll get a little sloppy and we could see some fatalities come end of season.

I know I was the first one to flame a dude for mentioning this, but square picture frames, square maintenance report, square books!!!

That does make you wonder about the square monitors, mirrors, lockers, desks, love-squares....

"I've got the weirdest rash..." :p

Jesus H, that was a painful episode to sit through. Don't feel like dissecting it all, just hoping the final few eps will save us from the filler-mire we currently find ourselves in.

    Adama 'projecting' ala the Cylons?

I just checked, the books aren't square[the law ones and the pulp novel], they have the corners missing, just not at the spines. The picture frame has the corners missing as well, but you'd have to pause to notice, and the maintenance report [the one adama signs] has the corners missing as well, but once again, you'd have to pause to notice.

yes, i had nothing better to be doing with my time, why do you ask.....

I want those 42 mins of my life back  I think I'll be writing a scathing review like I did for Torchwood.
Was Adama 'projecting' ala the Cylons?

Here was me thinking former Caprica-vapourised projected lovers were awesome. Oh how this episode changed my perspective on things.

I wonder where this trial is headed, is Baltar going to pull a rabbit out of the hat? they can't really get rid of him now. That is unless he is a Cylon

I hope this doesn't go all Losty on us, its the best program to watch still.

This is getting weak now, filler city, 1 % out of the last few episodes is adding to the show. As officially the biggest fan, I'm getting tired, even though this season had probably the best episode (4), the amount of stupid fillers is killing it. I look forward to the trial but I dont want 4 episodes of love stories and talking about it (fireworks factory in the simpsons, Ichy annd Scrathy).
There is no sense of urgency the 1st 2 seasons had. Next season they better find Earth or something spectacular. I don't wanna see Starbuck/Lee or even Adama/ EL Prez stories anymore, snooze feast!

Exactly as I saw it! Where the frack are the Basestars? Raiders? Please stop the stupidity! Look at Lost 98% of the people I know who were hardcore stopped watching because of of the retarded fillers. Don't let BSG fall the same way! If they have to end it prematurely so be it , look what happend to the original!

I didn't think of this episode as a 'filler' at all.

The Adama/Lee father/son angle has been a central part of the series. The last few episodes have had basestars, mythical temples & supernovas for gods sake!

I've always appreciated BSGs willingness to innovate and to mix action with character development.

I found this episode illuminating. And a timely reminder that life and ordinary needs and motivations continue. There is a time and a place for episodes like this every so often.

Bah, a stinker of an episode is still a stinker, regardless of whether you think "it's needed once in a while" or not. There are plenty of shows on TV that make character development episodes that are riveting to watch. These episodes shouldn't be a chore, that's not entertainment.

That sounds like innovation in the corporate sense of the word, i.e. not innovative at all. Mixing action and character development is nothing new. God knows, some shows have actually done it well.

Big Brother is a reminder that life and ordinary needs and motivations continue. Drama is life with the boring bits removed.

The time being 3am and the place being the editing room floor.

I didn't think the episodes was a stinker at all. A bit overly contemplative for some perhaps. But I think it worked cos you had the palpable sense of dread and the calm before the storm.

Excuse me? How exactly does that sound corporate? BSG can do ass kicking, no holds barred, all action episodes. But it's willingness to take a side step out of the main plot and spend time developing the human side of the characters so we can empathise with them more is to be lauded.
    Stark wrote:

I happen to think BSG does it very well. Then again, I'm one of the few who seemed to enjoy 'Scar' last season.

What a delicious argument. I disagree completely. Calm & considered need not necessarily mean boring. I didn't find the episode boring. I enjoyed the insight into one of the main characters. I think a peek every so often at everyday life on Galactica enriches the entire series.

I think a naturally evolving contemplative episode is far superior to formulaic, pulled together nonsense like last night's Hero.

But, as they say, different strokes for different folks.

Okay, fair enough if you actually liked it. I was just disagreeing with the oft-taken stance that boring episodes are somehow "necessary" to the show's development.

I do agree 100% that Hero was a total heap of ****e ;)

Im still waiting for 'The Hand of God' to come back in spirit: giant strategic space battles with flashing lights and 'splodes

would it be so entirely wrong of the series to throw a third party into the mix? maybe the old model cylons will rebel! Old school raiders and basestars to splode!!!

Come on: anything for a bit of f*ing space action!

:D But you're totally pre-judging there! If every single episode was a new threat or another cylon attack things would get ridiculous very soon.
    Stark wrote:

I think we can all agree on that. Turgid, cobbled together nonsense with a hopelessly miscast guest lead.

Oh God bless sweetheart, that was a flaming, was it?

Anyhoo, t'was an unremarkable episode and the situation with the chief and Cally was, in particular, badly handled. The timing just didn't work and I ended up with absolutely no feeling of them being in danger. Still an improvement on last week though, but only marginally.

Terrible crap; really really dissappointing stuff.

That's two so-so episodes in a row, far too much filler for my tastes.

I hope the next one beefs things up because it's getting real boring on Galactica these days.

i love full on space battles as much as anyone else here but BSG isnt supposed to be just about the cylons V humans its also about the humans and their struggle to survive. If ye've listened to any of the podcasts from the Almighty Moore you'd know that and have to accept that while we all love the shoot em ups we're not going to get a Doomesque (the game not the film) series but more a System Shock or Half Life type one.

So yes it was a filler, yes it was full of character development but it wasnt bad as they go, imho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭DS

I think the point is that it's fine not to have big action episodes every week (important actually), but that when there's a character driven episode, it has to be high quality, and it usually isn't

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

if Moore was doing his job right I wouldn't even be thinking of wanting an action-episode :p give me action or failing that give me some filler worth watching.
As far as surviving goes all theyre doing is a bunch of micro-focused stuff: the days of water rationing and Tyllium crises seem gone: yet I can't help but like to hear about the fleet as a whole, not just is Lee going to be sleeping on the couch again tonight?
Im crossing my fingers that next weeks ep will have a little more of what I'm looking for (perhaps another random cosmic event..ANYTHING..) Although I'll admit the Adama angle was good, the Tyroll thing was surprisingly uninteresting.

The problem is not that the past two episodes involve character development but that it is performed in a very heavy-handed and uninteresting manner. It's not up to the standard we expect of the show.

I really liked this ep as I like the Adama Roslin arc and the background on Adama was cool and the revelations about Apollos chlidhood.

Love tigh saying the ship needed a good few weeks in dry dock as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

I loved that wide shot of Galactica. Christ, it looks like its gonna fall apart any minute :)

I've always enjoyed any filler stuff that involved the Adama family - so that was ok.

Thought for a split-second there at the end, that El Prez and the Admiral were gonna jump all over each other :p

The Cally / Chief thing, I couldn't have cared less.

Good point about Galactica: after Exodus, I don't know how its still holding together! It took a bellyflop through the atmosphere and then it got arse-raped by 4 Basestars...

For a min, just a min i thought that for some strange reason they had decided to make adama one of the final 5 and him with his wife in this episode was him "projecting"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

    7
that whole projection thing did not have to be explained the way it did; it was a stupid slip up. Now we will have to think Lee and Adama are both Cylons (which they arent).

I kind of enjoyed it. OK, not a lot happened but Olmos is always worth watching and the ep was well directed and acted IMHO.
