...anyone got one, or experience of them?

Just wondering, what they'd be like to run ? Heavy on juice? Anything specific to look for on them if buying?

Trying to find a 2+2 cabrio classic with an element of practicality, as it'd be replacing a modern car, but only doing low mileage per annum...

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

He! You proberly should'nt be asking about fuel ecomony if you're thinking Old School V8!. If you get about 22/23 mpg you'll be happy.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Even with "New School" V8s and a light foot, you wouldn't be making much more than 20MPG on average. Do the sums though, if you only cover a low mileage, petrol consumption isn't really that relevant in the total cost of ownership scheme of things...

Rust. Check everywhere. It's well documented in buying guides.
I've no direct experience of the w107 (soft top) though do have an SLC. Driving is reasonably modern, most mod cons are there and the car is a pleasant place to be. The cars are softly sprung and heavy by today's standards and none the worse for it.

    [QUOTE=galwayttTrying to find a 2+2 cabrio classic [/QUOTE]

the Merc SL is a great car for practicality, combining the best cabrio/coupe combination, with without a shadow of a doubt the best designed hardtop of any classic car, offering you all year round driveability if need be. Parts supply is excellent, they're effortless to drive, if a bit 'sedate' and softly sprung (although this is mostly down to the soft seats). The car invites you to relaxed cruising, but the car is reasonably responsive when you put your foot down, but this will be noticeable in you mpg figures....

however, one thing this car is definitely NOT is a 2+2 !!!!! there are no seats in the back, full stop, and you can fit two children or one adult sitting sideways, but that wouldn't be recommended for long journeys!

Strange coincidence this... I just drove a '72 350SL back from southern France this weekend.

I'm gonna post a new thread with some pics, but here's a couple of useful links I stumbled across when researching older 107s:

    http://www.dianasmercedes.com/BuyersGuide.htm
    http://www.apexstrategy.com/sc/72mercedes.html
    http://www.thebenzbin.com/107_chassis.html

And a great forum with loads of info:
    http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/

Do you have a link to one you were interested in? US or Euro spec?

Somew are advertised as having rear seats, but you would do very well to fit a small child in there, and deffo not an adult, even with the roof off !
