Access to old state buildings and institutions

Ive seen a lot of work done in old English hospitals and mental institutions where it looks like the photographers have full access to the buildings. Is this possible here in ireland ,or do people need to be commisioned by the state to take on these "projects".

well, i imagine a mental hospital would have severe reservations about anyone walking in and taking photos - there's rights to privacy issues which come into play, i'd imagine, let alone insurance issues were you injured at any stage, etc.

I don't mean occupied places magic ,just old unused places .
Things like coloured doors and paint hanging off.

It's annoying, I saw some pictures on flickr last year of an old abandoned hospital somewhere not far away, and now I can't remember who took them or where they were. Sorry

There's a really good forum somewhere on the net, I can't remember it, but people getting in everywhere and anywhere.

i'd imagine that with the amount of development in ireland over the last few years, that there are very few derelict buildings left of the type you describe.

Yeah, the amount of asylums and that are mostly still in use or renovated, but there's still a few old state houses about...I'm sure between us, we could find something...

woodlawn house in galway?
found myself there with one roll of 120, so only twelve shots for a house which is over 30,000 square foot in size...

just climbed in, but i was with someone who knows the family who owns the land.
it's a 24 bedroom palladian mansion which has been unoccupied since the 70s. it's available to buy, too, if you've a spare million or two.
