(Would you mind deleting the duplicate thread so all replies appear together? Thanks.)

Do you have a bike licence at all at the moment and have you done the theory test for bikes. (I'm asking because you can ride a 50cc restricted moped on a full car licence.)

You need to apply for an A1 provisional licence if you don't have one already (you might as well apply for class A too while you're at it - you could outgrow a 125 before your test comes around, especially if you need to ride on main roads.)

You can do the test on an automatic no problem, will probably be easier to pass, but your full licence will be restricted to automatics only. If you ever want to ride a manual you'll need to do the test again on one to the get the restriction taken off your licence.

Also, of course, if you take the test in Class A1 you'll be limited to 125cc forever and will have to start again with a Class A provisional if you ever want to move up.
You may be able to hire a scooter above 125cc from an instructor for taking your test, which would get you around that problem.

Get good safety gear (not just a helmet - gloves, boots, preferably a weatherproof jacket and trousers with armour - gear for scooter riders which looks like normal clothing is available) and take lessons from a proper instructor e.g. www.irishridertraining.com I'd say this is essential to get through the test no matter how much experience you have, as the bike test is really a series of hoops to jump through rather than a test of real-world riding.

    Good luck!

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.
