Channel 6 listings in Mythtv

    Hi There,

    Posting this in the event that it's useful to any of you out there running mythtv and would like a simple way to get Channel 6 listings into the database. It's my first time dabbling in perl, so if you see improvements to the script they'd be more than welcome! :)

    I've been running this on my myth box for a few weeks now and it seems to be working ok. Basically, you'll need to install the following perl modules:

    Time::Local
    LWP::Simple
    Date::Manip

    and run the perl script. It will generate an xmltv format file for the next 10 days listing from the channel 6 listings published on their web site.

    Then run mythfilldatabase as displayed at the end of the script and you should have tv listings. I've enclosed a bash script in the zip file which can help you to run this. Change the location of the call to the perl script to match where you've installed the script. I then set up a cron job to run this once a day to automatically put the listings into the myth database.

    It currently doesn't identify genre's correctly and there's probably other problems, but at least it gets some starting point data into the db.

    Hope you find it useful!

    Adrian.

    you don't feel like uploading the xml file evey few days, do ya?

    xmltv runs as a binary for me i think on windows, I'll have to have a look at getting the perl file working on windows, don't no much about perl though, any suggestions what perl program to use, active perl maybe?

    Sorry eolhc, couldn't commit to that! Shouldn't be too hard though to get perl up and running on your windows machine. I did do this for mythv users who will be running on Linux. Active perl should be fine, the routines I use are all written in perl so there's nothing too fancy used. I'm no expert in it, but if there's anything I can do to help, post here and I'll see what I can do.
