    Hi,
Should be a simple enough answer to this ( I hope) I am trying to format my hard drive in my dell dimension desktop running XP but I don't have a floppy drive? Any ideas, I was looking for a boot cd but couldnt find a good one plus when I tried a fresh install of XP the old one was still there.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sham.

The GParted Live CD will allow you to format your disk.

Just to say, if you wish to securely erase a HD, Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN"), installs to a USB stick with just a click.

    http://dban.sourceforge.net

WARNING: this gets rid of everything..

When you're installing XP, delete the old partition that Windows was on then make a new one and install on that - then it'll format it and your old install will be gone.
