Frustrating bug!

    Wondering if anyone can help me... My Macintosh HD icon has disappeared from Finder and from the Desktop. The relevant option in Finder preferences is set to display this icon but there's no sign of it. I can access the root from the terminal alright but trying to work like this will be pretty frustrating. Just wondering if this is a known bug and if so whether anyone has any suggestions for a fix? Thanks.
