personally i think Olympus and Canon are pretty much similar camera,
256mb sd card maybe just about to do the job(storing picture, short clip etc)
but for the 30 euro extra u get 1gb card, u can store plenty of pic and mpeg on it and not have to worry about memory full.
buying a memory card alone can be quite expensive

Get the memory cards from 7dayshop.com, they have SD cards for almost nothing there.

I just bought a digital compact myself, just waiting on delivery which is taking a little longer then expected. I chose the Panasonic FX01 for its small physical size and its (very rare) 28mm wide-angle lens. I think there is a newer 7Mp version (FX07?) available, but the added cost wasn't worth it for me.
I bought it from TechnikDirect.de with a 1Gb card and shipping for €290.

I looked closely at the Ixus 60, but the zoom range was off-putting. I think it starts out at 35mm, so the 28mm of the Pana was a big bonus. Don't really know much about the others only that I thoroughly dislike the XD cards used in Olympus and Fuji (just my personal preference).

I have heard very good things about the Fuji F30 though and very bad things about the Pixmania website.

*edit. I wouldn't worry too much about getting a card and case included. You can always buy the card on the same website but it needn't be part of the camera package (you get more choice that way). Cases can eaily be picked up for less then the cost of postage on eBay or 7DayShop.

    Olympus FE-230
    Canon Digital IXUS 60

2 things. First, I'm completely byest. I love Olympus and dont patrcularry like Canon that much (dont hate them or anything). I dont think that Canon are trying that hard. Latly Olympus are making all the major breakthoughs (light refraction reductions, pixle shading reductions, more processors on your sensors and so on). Second, a friend has the Ixus about 1 year and its fallen apart.
I like that little Olympus and I'd recommend that one.

Dara ,olympus made the biggest mistake of all ,by not having the foresight of a full frame sensor being mass produced .
I think all cameras in the consumer range are good in their own right.
Panasonics are known to be noisey ,canons are expensive ,etc etc.

True, I knew that when buying the camera. But whether its a problem depends on what you use it for. If you're not taking indoor/ nightlife shots then it shouldn't rate as a problem.

The Fuji F30 on the other hand is most known for it's low noise levels.

I'd buy a panasonic camera no problem ,I was just giving an example that every camera has something good and bad.
panasonic have a 10x optical zoom point and shoot thats tiny:) ,also I've bought lots of technics stuff aswell :) 1210's.:)

Sorry, if my post sounded defensive of my camera choice it wasn't meant to!
    ;)

I was trying to make the point that you can tailor the camera to your needs as different makers are strong in their own particular areas. So the photographer can choose a camera that best suits their style.

Does anyone have an idea which one to go for or any other around this price range that would be good? I'm looking for a card and case included.

    Thanks for your help,

For my 2p worth, go Canon. I have become quite a fan of their stuff. Quite a lot of canons are still made in Japan 'cause they are pretty strict on the old quality control for the home market. Good range of batterys and accessories widely available. Not as simple with other brands.

Fuji are bit dodgy as the MP quotes isn't always true MP due to their sensor range, some kind of double something or other. I don't like the Olympus because of the memory card type, while cheap SD is easy to pick up, olympus smart media can be costly (less users, mean higher price).
